**About the Role**

**Key Responsibilities**
- Architect, design, develop, and implement automation and control engineering safety systems.
- Analysis and management of safety requirements and development of cost estimates to meet customer requirements
- Theoretical safety and reliability analysis of electronic hardware and software design proposals
- Manage and prioritize functional safety work requirements across projects and products
- Define and produce, either directly or indirectly, required functional safety work products, such as: FMECA, FTA, PHA, RAMS, RTM, SHA, SVM, SRAC, Safety Plan, Safety Case, etc. and related automation and control engineering products, such as operations and maintenance procedures, etc.
- Responsible for the planning and execution of external safety audits and assessments
- Identifying and incorporating COTS solutions into Willowglen safety systems
- Evaluate, select, and contract external suppliers for development and supply of automation safety-related products or services.
- Advance and manage the organization that develops and deploys safety hardware and safety software systems for customer projects
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and train staff in all aspects of implementing functional safety in automation and control systems design, development, and implementation.
- Coordinate and manage direct/indirect resources to meet project schedules
- Prime interface with customers to define functional safety requirements
- Work with customers to identify system hazards and potential failures

**Required Qualifications**
- BSc (minimum) in Engineering, Computer Science, or comparable area of studies - or equivalent.
- 3+ years or the equivalent of functional safety engineering experience
- Experience in the rail industry and CENELEC EN50126, EN50128, EN50129 standards is preferred. Related experience in IEC 61508/61511 process industries or the automotive industry and ISO 26262 would also be considered.
- Proven experience in requirements development, design verification, and design validation
- Experience in the safety assessment process from a certified body (e.g., TÜV, Exida)
- Knowledge of systems engineering, hardware design, and software design
- Experience with requirements management software tools
- Experience working in an Agile environment focused on achieving team goals.
- Positive attitude with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Experience working with continuous integration, and continuous deployment engineering processes.
- An autodidactic mindset for continuous learning for not only yourself but also learning together with your team.

**Nice to Have**
- Eligible for APEGA, EGBC, or PEO membership
- Functional Safety Engineer (FSE) designation considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
- Able to pick up and utilize new technologies and concepts in very short time frames.
- Effectively communicate technical issues, concepts, solutions to non-technical people to build consensus, trust, and decisions.
- Experienced or familiar with these technologies and languages:

- Python, Javascript, Git/ Gitlab, JUnit
- Selenium, Jira
- Microservices architecture
- Can handle full-stack development and are able to design and build a testing environment for a minimum viable product quickly.
- Experience in systems integration using Application Programming Interface (API) testing.
- Experienced or familiar with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
