Support Worker

PHSS is a non-profit organization that provides unique and flexible supports and services so that people with complex medical, physical, and/or developmental needs can live the life they choose as part of the community. As a leader in community inclusion of individuals with developmental, medical, and/or complex physical needs, PHSS supports individuals to live in their own homes and participate in community with family and friends.
Based in London, Ontario, PHSS supports more than 200 individuals in more than 60 locations across Ontario, providing 24-hour residential supports, day and overnight respite, specialized complex medical care and intensive behavioural supports, recreational programs, and support for individuals living at home with their families. By offering home-based supports, PHSS provides an alternative to institutional care by reducing the pressure on hospitals and institutions and in many cases, substantially reduce the cost of care.

**Responsibilities**:
- Carry out personal care duties
- Complete daily living, recreational, and all programming as required
- Monitor health and assist in medical need provision such as medication administration
- Participate and assist in behavioral support programming such as de-escalation, redirection, and following CPI
- Contribute as a constructive and positive team member with focus on the ongoing care of the person(s) supported
- Carry out cleaning and duties as required to maintain a clean and safe environment within and outside the home
- Assist persons supported in evacuation during an emergency quickly and safely
- Ensure the wellbeing of the individuals by being prepared for emergency procedures
- Adhere to and carry out PHSS policies and procedures
**Qualifications, Experience, and Education Required**
- Current First Aid & CPR is required
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 is required
- Clear vulnerable sector police check is required
- Flexible schedule for days, afternoons, overnight, and weekend shifts and ability
to pick up on-call shifts is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to problem-solve through
high stress situations while remaining calm
- Experience working with individuals with high behavioural/developmental needs
is preferred and/or high medical needs (trac, vents, etc.) is preferred
- Demonstrated ability of following medication procedures is preferred
- A history of effective, responsible, and respectful support work is preferred
- Ability to provide awake night support if needed by the person
supported depending on shift allocation
- Knowledge and ability to perform light maintenance and housekeeping of home
is preferred
- Good organizational and time management skills is required
- Graduates and/or students in DSW, PSW, Child & Youth Worker programs or
related are encouraged to apply
