The Mining, Petroleum & Geoscience branch within the department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Geologist 2 - Assessment & Consultation Geologist and Geologist 3 - Lead Assessment & Consultation Geologist located in Winnipeg. GE2 Pay scale: ($69,517 - 87,151). GE3 Pay scale: ($78,741- 99,924).

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Must be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to ten days with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels and tents.

Qualifications:
Essential:

- Undergraduate (B.Sc.) and graduate (M.Sc. preferred) degrees in geology or geological engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in full-cycle planning and managing mineral exploration programs including execution and implementation.
- Experience with supervising, mentoring and leading staff. (Note: For GE3 Position only)
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

Desired:

- Knowledge of The Mines and Minerals Act and Regulations.
- Mediation training/experience or consultation experience with Indigenous communities.

**Duties**:
The Assessment & Consultation Geologist (GE2)**:
The incumbent applies complex technical understanding of a variety of geological, geophysical, geochemical and mineral exploration techniques and uses that understanding to make comprehensive recommendations and evaluations in consideration of The Mines and Minerals Act to the Lead Assessment and Consultation Geologist. The incumbent collects, compiles, analyzes and presents all relevant data and reports pertaining to assigned projects to the Lead, projects may include but are not limited to annual work return assessments, borehole licenses, geo-technical report interpretations, geoscientific assessments of Crownland use requests and incentive program evaluations.
The incumbent will use their geological expertise to assist the Crown-Indigenous consultation process in respectful meaningful collaboration by providing geological interpretation, promoting awareness, assisting with strategy and policy, and facilitating liaison between communities, industry and all levels of government.

The Lead Assessment & Consultation Geologist (GE3):
Provides professional advice on complex mining and quarry land management issues and challenges involving the Branch. The incumbent applies complex technical understanding of a variety of geological, geophysical, geochemical and mineral exploration techniques and uses that understanding to make comprehensive recommendations and evaluations in consideration of The Mines and Minerals Act to the Branch Director and Executive Management. This position also supervises the work of the Assessment Geologist providing specific direction for projects of an exploratory, evaluative or survey nature where the Assessment Geologist collects, compiles, analyzes and presents all relevant data and reports pertaining to the project to the Lead.
