Family-run Scarborough Retirement Residence has been providing care to seniors for over 35 years.

The Dining Captain has the role of setting the gold standard if service. Reporting directly to the Dining Services Supervisor or designate, the Dining Captain / Lead Server is accountable to support the service staff in all aspects of hospitality style dining room service.

The Dining Captain / Lead Server is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values and employee guiding principles, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- The Dining Captain / Lead Server supports the dining room staff and will take a section or pick up tables when necessary.
- Assist with before and after diner beverages in the Lobby Pub
- Assist with serving special guest tables or catered events.
- Under the direction of the Dining Services Supervisor and or Executive Chef, assists with training new dining attendants
- Responsible for maintaining the dining room, Magnolia Cafe, Fred’s Bar, Private Dining Room, and family Lounge to ensure they are presentable.
- Practices and maintains established standards for cleanliness and sanitation throughout all aspects of service as required by the health department.
- Brings forth any concerns to the Dining Services Supervisor about resident satisfaction in the dining room
- Promotes and tracks a la carte and wine service sale in accordance with prescribed procedures;
- Complies with all provincial regulations, established food and beverage department policies and procedures and RHRA standards to ensure the department is tour ready;
- Performs other duties as assigned

**Health and Safety**
- Advises supervisor immediately of all staff incidents or injuries, any concerns with the environment they work in
- Follows all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents;
- Maintains a clean, safe environment for residents utilizing infection control principles;
- Maintains a sound working knowledge of their role & responsibilities
- Participates in drills to prepare for emergencies and attends all education sessions in relation to emergency preparedness.

**Qualifications**
- Hospitality and Restaurant Experience

At least 3+ years of experience as a dining attendant
- Possess a valid Smart Serve and Safe Food Handling certificates
- Must have an excellent command of verbal and written English language skills;
- Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team;
- Experience working with seniors and knowledge of the aging process an asset
- Proven customer service skills
