ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The safety officer ensures workplace safety, with the goal of reducing injury and related legal issues.

Key responsibilities for the safety officer are:

- minimize injuries, accidents, and health problems
- Participate in the development of safety and health policies, practices and procedures
- Develop and maintain driver incentive program that promotes safe transportation behaviours
- Ensure company compliance with all applicable laws governing vehicle transportation and environmental health and safety as well as MTO/DOT rules and regulations along with FAST and CTPAT programs
- Ensure all employees and the company are equipped with proper permits, licenses and all other requirements to effectively perform their job duties
- monitoring activities of drivers on the road and ensure nobody is violating safety regulations
- Conduct and coordinate safety inspections, ensure maintenance program is adhered to
- Lead the investigation of accidents and injuries, and cooperate in the preparation of material for hearings and insurance investigations
- Design training material and train all levels of employees
- People and Project Management

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- full knowledge of MTO/DOT rules and regulations
- full knowledge of FAST and CTPAT programs
- full knowledge of CVOR
- Tech-savvy with knowledge of relevant dispatch and tracking programs
- Knowledge of procedures and guideline for trucking and safety regulations
- Proficient in English (oral and written)
- Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities
- Active listener with excellent communication skills
- Sound judgement and critical thinking
- high level of personal awareness and common sense
- transportation safety accreditation (e.g. OSL) is an asset
- bachelor's degree

The safety officer must be well versed in the legal implications of injury and prevention tactics that help avoid injury or physical loss due to accident. They also need to be familiar with health and safety rules, and they will work closely with managerial staff to implement current guidelines. The job of the safety officer is to enforce guidelines at all times, and also to be intuitive and able to spot potential errors of judgement early on. For this reason, it's essential that a safety officer has an eye for detail and an ability to show good judgement in pressured situations.
Knowledge of the complete requirements for the company is required to be able to educate staff appropriately. Along with inspecting and training drivers, they must also be able to manage their fellow employees in case there is a safety emergency.

The safety officer job requires more than simply watching the behavior of drivers and correcting unsafe conduct; they must also provide drivers with safety training to ensure that they are fully aware of safety standards. This may involve circulating reading and instructional material on the matter, as well as running or organizing educational programs.

**Salary**: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
