**About Us**:
As part of the Student Experience portfolio, the Accessible Education team offers resources and supports to students with disabilities at Western. Team members work one-on-one with students to review documentation, understand needs, and recommend academic accommodations that help ensure equity, inclusion, and access to education.

**Responsibilities**:
Western is striving to ensure that our community, campus, programs, research, outreach, and self-representation will be more inclusive. The Manager, Accessible Education is responsible for leading the activities of the Accessible Education unit within Academic Support & Engagement, as well as maintaining a caseload as an accessibility counsellor. The Manager will supervise the members of the team, ensure that the strategic objectives of the unit are met, develop and implement an assessment plan, and manage the non-salary budget for the unit. Reporting to the Associate Director, Academic Support & Engagement, the role will manage the development and delivery of a wide range of services and programs to support undergraduate and graduate students. Due to the sizable number of students requiring assistance, supports and programs need to be effective and efficient, while also recognizing the unique needs of each student.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- Master's Degree in Disability Studies, Social Work, Counselling, Occupational Therapy, Education or other related discipline
- Regulated health professional in a related field
- Experience:
- 5 years’ experience working with Accessibility for Ontarian’s with Disabilities Act legislation and/or accommodation of persons with disabilities
- 3 years’ experience leading staff and teams
- Experience working with post-secondary students at both the graduate and undergraduate level is preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the Accessibility Fund for Students with Disabilities (AFSD), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and associated regulations
- Knowledge of associated legislation: Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, AODA as it pertains to protection under the law for persons with disabilities
- Skilled communicator and relationship builder who is able to use empathy, tact, patience and diplomacy when addressing highly sensitive and confidential matters
- Strong understanding of human rights issues and advocacy and principles of intersectionality
- Strong supervisory and coaching skills to facilitate staff development and performance evaluation
- Judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills in complex situations with a consultative and collaborative leadership approach to addressing issues and opportunities
- Ability to develop and deliver innovative programs based on best practices, and in response to emerging student needs and trends
- Well-developed public speaking/communication and facilitation skills across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders (e.g., staff, faculty, students)
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, facilitation and people management skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of case management and counselling modalities
- Knowledge of provincial and national issues, initiatives, current research, and thinking as it relates to accessible education services within post-secondary institutions
