**Child & Family Recreation and Respite Worker**

(Full-time, permanent position)
- Interval House of Ottawa is a 38-bed emergency home for those fleeing VAW/GBV and their dependents, and is the only shelter in Ottawa that provides on-site housing for their pets._

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**
- Plan and implement age-appropriate recreational and leisure activities for children and families
- Plan and implement outings within the community for children and families, including arranging for transportation
- Provide childcare for shelter residents
- Provide a safe, stimulating, enjoyable and creative environment for children and families
- Create an atmosphere of safety and trust by interacting with children in a patient, positive and non-judgmental manner
- Show children and youth non-violent ways to resolve conflict
- Plan and implement monthly multicultural educational and/or recreational activities
- Establish and maintain a calendar and schedule of events
- Maintain an inventory of supplies for the playroom and children’s activities
- Provide support to residents on day-to-day safety such as the use of high chairs and booster seats

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Diploma in Recreation & Leisure Studies or equivalent in experience, education, and/or training
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with infants, children, and youth
- Knowledge of violence against women (VAW) and gender-based violence (GBV) issues
- Knowledge of children who witness violence issues
- Knowledge of recreational resources within the community
- Proven conflict resolution skills
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
- Self-directed, with the ability to assess program needs, initiate activities and work independently
- Ability to modify activities to suit the needs of children of varying ages
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to identify and serve the needs of diverse communities
- Ability to communicate fluently in spoken and written English. Ability to communicate in other languages is an asset

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Staff may be required to interact with animals that are housed on-site.
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification
- As a condition of employment, all employees must have and provide proof of full COVID-19 immunization. Where a person is unable to vaccinate for human rights protected reasons, an accommodation may be provided

**COMPENSATION & HOURS**
- Salary range of $41,860 - $52,627 based on experience (both lived and academic)
- 35 hours per week
- Hours of work are:

- Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2:00 - 9:00 pm; Wednesday: 4:00 - 9:00 pm; Saturday: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Note: Wednesdays include a staff meeting from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.
- Occasional trainings/special events outside of normal working hours will be required approximately six times per year. We strive to provide 4 weeks’ notice of these events.
