Chess & Strategy Games Instructor

The Préville Fine Arts Centre is looking for **chess instructors** for the 2023 summer day camp session
We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible, and outgoing leaders to ensure the well-being and safety of young children while organizing various chess and strategy games for ages 7-12 years.
**About the position**
Dates: June 26th - August 11th.
Schedule: Monday - Friday between 6-7 hours per day.
**Salary**: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
**Duties include**
- Coordinating and animating engaging strategy games for campers of different ages. This includes, but is not limited to, the game of chess, dungeons and dragons, catan and battleship.
- Creating a comprehensive chess & games curriculum for the summer camp
- Supervising campers to ensure their safety at all times
- Working cooperatively with other camp counselors to ensure campers are safe and having fun
- Explaining and enforcing facility rules and safety procedures
- Greeting parents and guardians at drop off and pick up times
- Taking attendance at the beginning and end of every activity
**Qualifications**
- High School Diploma
- Experience teaching and leading a group of children
- Prior experience working with children and youth
- First Aid certification an asset

- Passionate about chess and strategy games
- Strong observational and awareness skills: for example, to notice emergencies as soon as they happen.
- Excellent conflict resolution and leadership skills: for example, to act as a mediator between campers in case of conflict
- Good stress management and decision-making skills
- Autonomy, reliability, honesty and integrity
**Abilities**
- Works well independently and in a team
- Maintains enthusiasm and energy for long durations of time
- Responsibly monitors and manages individuals engaged in large group activities
- Tries to anticipate individual needs of campers, where appropriate
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months
**Salary**: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
