**Main Purpose and Function**

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities**
- Provides planning review for low density housing and other more complex planning projects
- Supports DBL Service Centre with professional planning and urban design advice
- Represents the Director of Planning at the Board of Variance for projects
- Monitors the impact of zoning regulations on low density areas, and in consultation with the policy staff, recommends and prepares reports to Council on new regulations and guidelines where appropriate
- Prepares illustrated information bulletins to assist the public in understanding residential zoning regulations
- Provides technical assistance to staff
- Makes presentations to advisory panels
- Providing customer service through the enquiry centre
- Responds to a high volume of enquiries and public contact requiring consistent and accurate advice to be given
- Performs related architectural and planning work as required
- Performs other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience:
A post-secondary degree in planning recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners and a minimum of one year professional experience in the planning field, or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience.

In addition to the above, a degree in a related field such as Architecture recognized by the AIBC and demonstrated Architecture, Building Renovation and/or Urban Design experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Considerable knowledge of landscape architecture, urban planning; policy development; municipal planning and development processes; and environmental planning and urban sustainability
- Considerable experience with housing and building renovation projects
- Knowledge of residential zoning regulations and guidelines and experience with implementation and administration of residential zoning by-laws and guidelines is an asset
- Ability to relate well to other staff, builders, designers, architects, owners, Boards, Panels, members of Council and the general public
- Working knowledge of the Vancouver Building By-Law
- Good knowledge of governmental structures and systems
- Ability to achieve multiple program objectives within defined timelines
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing including excellent report writing skills
- Ability to perform moderately complex technical research and prepare reports independently
- Ability to supervise technical staff
- Ability to communicate ideas and make recommendations
- Ability to work effectively with the citizens, City staff and officials, and other interested groups
