**Job Summary**:

- Conduct effective reference interviews, analyze, and interpret information and research requests, to determine the nature of the information requirement, and the appropriate search strategies and sources for responding to the requirement.
- Manage project as assigned, including organization and management of project tasks, and reporting to management and clients. This includes the management of the publicly available dataset program through their evaluation and the verification of their appropriate use according to policy and procedures in place; while advising and presenting on the acquisition and use of these datasets.
- Participate on project teams, coordinating contextual open source research and awareness services, with colleagues and counterparts in the Government of Canada.
- Design and deliver educational workshops, aimed at facilitating informed and resource-effective use of open information resources and services by Service employees.
- Establish and maintain a thorough knowledge of Service interests and priorities, through various means, including ongoing liaison with Service colleagues, contributions to the Research unit planning, and participation in our promotional programs.
- Conduct research exploiting various information sources, using diverse and complex search strategies and protocols, and evaluate results to determine the relevance of the information requirement, the necessity to follow up on new information uncovered, and to revise the search strategy to look for related information.
- Design customized reports for clients, providing analysis of contents, highlighting possible biases, unique information, and key findings.
- Evaluate publicly available datasets and verify their appropriate use according to policy and procedures in place; while also advising and presenting on the acquisition and use of these datasets.
- Consult and collaborate with other divisions, branches and GoC departments on emerging issues and developing policy and procedures as needed.

**Education**:
**Level 08**:

- Master’s degree in Library Studies and four (4) years of experience as a professional librarian.

**Underfill Level 07**:

- Master’s degree in Library Studies and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian.

**Note**:

- The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada. If you completed a program outside Canada, you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense through a recognized credential assessment service.
- Any higher level of education could be recognized as experience.
- **Underfill Level 07**: The successful applicant will need to follow a developmental plan to reach the full level of the position. Hence, the successful applicant will initially be appointed to the position as a level 07 ($73,970 - $89,970), until they reach the full-working level where they will qualify for the level 08 position ($84,050 - $102,250). Inability to meet the objectives of the developmental plan will result in the employee staying at the level 07.
- Experience working as a professional librarian in a library or information centre environment.
- Experience conducting research and effectively communicating the results to clients.
- Experience in project management or serving as part of specialized project teams.
- Experience providing advice to management, colleagues and clients.

An asset qualification is a qualification which can enhance the ability to perform the work based on current and future business requirements, but which is not strictly required. Assets can help determine right fit.
