4 weeks of vacation + 12 personal days

As a provider of Housing Focused Shelter in the Niagara Region, the YWCA Niagara Region offers innovative housing programs and services that provide hope for womxn and their families living in poverty.

The YW provides shelter, food and assistance to homeless women and their families. Our dedicated staff provides exceptional care and support for the women and their families who turn to us. The YW offers staff a challenging and collaborative environment as they work to create meaningful change for homeless individuals.

To complement our Shelter programs staffing component, the YW is looking for an exceptional team player, who is compassionate, non-judgmental, and self-motivated to round out the team.

Position Summary:
The Housing Stability Worker’s primary role is to work in combination with Advocates and guests accessing shelter to provide support around all housing needs. The Housing Stability Worker is to meet with guests in shelter regularly to assist with housing searches, viewings and other housing support as deemed necessary. The Housing Stability Worker will also work with each guest on their previous barriers to housing and creating action plans to assist in alleviating these barriers to ensure ongoing success within housing moving forward, working with Team Advocates who will provide necessary referrals to outside agencies to ensure the ongoing success of housing stability. The Housing Stability Worker will be responsible for the On-Site Transitional Housing Caseload.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work in collaboration with Advocates to best support housing needs of shelter, Onsite guests as well as community members at risk of homelessness (where possible)
- **Rotational On call after hour’s supervisor duties supporting the agency emergencies (evenings/weekends)**.
- Assist in providing support in housing related appointments, this may include client transportation within own vehicle
- Discuss and evaluate past/current housing barriers with guests and work to create an action plan to assist in alleviating barriers with the goal of achieving long term housing stability
- Ensure necessary referrals to assist with housing barriers and action plan are communicated to Team Advocates and assist by way of referrals where possible
- Provide additional support where possible to Team Advocates in shelter i.e. bag/room searches, laundry, room cleaning, light kitchen duties, crisis management, etc.
- Works collaboratively with community agencies, providing referrals and follow-up as necessary.
- Participates in shift change when necessary and staff meetings as required, shares information in a respectful, non-judgemental manner
- Input all information into HIFIS system regarding work completed i.e. intake, discharge, case planning, viewings, housing search assistance etc.
- Maintain a caseload of On-Site Clients, completing interviews, intakes, discharges and goal setting.
- Working with On-Site clients to successfully complete the On-Site program based on the goals that they set for themselves.
- Completes all necessary documentation, including written records/reports and provides statistics monthly.
- Acts as Housing Stability Shelter trainer for all new shelter staff.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary diploma/ degree in social services, or equivalent
- 1+ years’ experiencing working with the YWCA/homeless population
- Reliable transportation, ability to provide valid proof of insurance, mandatory
- CPR/First Aid Certified, mandatory
- Clear police vulnerable sector check
- Demonstrated knowledge of the following issues: Homelessness, Equity Deserving Populations, Addictions, Mental Health Issues and Family Housing Barriers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Confident decision maker and problem solver with critical thinking skills
- Confidence in a crisis with strong conflict resolution skills
- CTI (Crisis Prevention) training preferred
- Understanding and delivery of anti-oppressive, trauma informed frameworks
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Rights and responsibilities required
- Experience with landlord relations an asset
- Strong understanding of the workings of Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support and Niagara Regional Housing

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $26.25 per hour
