**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba is looking for an Indigenous Student Recruitment Officer - Health Careers. This position will work in conjunction with the existing ISRCR team and in close collaboration with the RFHS & Ongomiizwin to guide these efforts. This collaboration will ensure that the ISRO's activities are aligned with the extensive mandated work and primary responsibilities held by these teams.
The ISRO will represent the University of Manitoba at various off-campus and on-campus student recruitment functions, including, but not limited to, presentations at senior and junior high schools, evening/weekend parent functions, community events, career fairs and symposiums, education promotional events, and on-campus events and tours.
The ISRO will work with rural, northern, and urban communities. The ISRO will also assist the Student Recruitment and Admissions offices in supplying information and service to prospective and current applicants as they progress from recruited applicants to registered students. They will work closely and collaboratively with the Indigenous staff and programs on campus, the other Student Recruitment Officers of the Office of the Registrar and Enrolment Services, and the Indigenous Student Recruitment and Community Relations team.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED FOR INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Education or related field.
- Prefer a recent University of Manitoba graduate and/or someone trained in a health career related field.
- Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, and clean driving record required.
- Two years directly related experience is required.
- Must have a wide-ranging knowledge of health careers and programs offered at the UM
- Experience, knowledge, and competency with Indigenous cultures, history and community protocols required.
- Knowledge of Indigenous politics as they relate to education and community visits required.
- Personal experience as an Indigenous student attending a post-secondary institution in an urban setting is required. (Experience as a student or staff member of the University of Manitoba preferred)
- Experience with program development, workshop facilitation and public speaking is required.
- Experience working with students or youth or in the post-secondary or public school system required.
- Public relations, communications and/or marketing experience preferred.
- Three or more years of experience in a First Nation or Metis community an asset.
- Knowledge of other programs, especially web development programs preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- High degree of computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint required.
- Must be able to work within time and budget constraints.
- Strong written competencies including report and grant writing skills required.
- Strong verbal communication skills that support dialogue with the various stakeholders, organizations, communities, campus partners etc required.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others in cooperative ventures.
- Must be able to able to clearly project voice and to hold audiences' attention.
- Must be able to speak for long periods without tiring or losing enthusiasm.
- Must have an innovative and flexible approach to problem-solving.
- Must be an empathetic and careful listener.
- Must be very reliable and self-motivated, and able to work independently without supervision when necessary.
- Must be a great team player.
- Ability to meet, engage and build collaborative relationships with Indigenous contacts in community required.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate Indigenous values and ways knowing being and doing into student programming and interpersonal interactions required.
- Ability to conduct research independently required.
- Should have a working knowledge of marketing techniques.
