Automation Operations Manager

**What to Expect**
Tesla’s Automation Development team is at the forefront of building innovative automation equipment. This team is designing the next generation of equipment that will allow our production team to manufacture battery cells that have best in class quality while achieving rate, in a safe and ergonomic environment. We are seeking an Automation Operations Manager to focus on leading our team in Toronto. You will be playing a critical role for Tesla and its mission, to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy, by enhancing and improving our high speed automation systems that produce these battery cells. You will lead a dynamic team, managing operations, inventory, supply chain, quality, and assembly.
**What You’ll Do**
- Build and lead a strong, highly motivated team capable of consistently delivering the highest quality automated equipment through aggressive production targets.
- Maintain a culture that prioritizes safety and quality through communication, action, and accountability.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across sites and functions, including but not limited to Engineering, Quality, Assembly, Operations, Inventory.
- Allocate the resources to each project, assuring timelines will be met.
- Communicate high level project information to leadership, both on a regular cadence and when necessary
- Continuously monitor and measure all project processes and activities to identify and communicate potential issues, risks, or problems in a timely fashion and provide corrective action options, and drive to resolution.
- Manage a variety of vendors through planning and execution with an emphasis on lead-time.
- Drive common standards between different groups within Tesla.
- Ensure teams receive effective training and workforce development
- Tesla people leaders are responsible for a variety of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including ensuring their teams’ safety training is current, documenting EHS incidents, proactively correcting workplace hazards in the areas, and empowering others to continuously improve operations.
**What You’ll Bring**
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent of 5-10 years of experience in a fast paced, highly fluid environment or other evidence of exceptional ability.
- Experience in high speed automation.
- Strong experience across Supply Chains, creating and fostering strong vendor relationships.
- Extensive experience taking concepts from prototyping to production.
- Ability to operate independently and effectively in a fast paced environments
- Experience leading projects and aligning with project stakeholders, team leaders, and equipment builders.
- Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
- Communicate clearly using excellent written and verbal skills.
- Strong organizational and networking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
