**Purpose**:
Reporting to the Director, Community Safety Program and Policy Development (Director), Community Safety Department, the Policy and Program Advisor is responsible for assisting the Director in developing and implementing a wide range of departmental and university safety-related policies, procedures and programs that have been identified as priorities under the Department and the University's strategic priorities and service transformation objectives. Under the guidance and direction of the Director, using an equity, diversity and inclusion lens, this position will:
Research safety-related policies, procedures and programs in other institutions and jurisdictions, as well as applicable legislation and regulations and provide interpretation of trends, challenges, and opportunitieswith a view to identifying promising practices that can be incorporated into policies, procedures, and programs at York University.
Develop, implement, and support processes for consulting with and engaging student, staff, faculty groups, and external stakeholders in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs.
Update existing policies and procedures and draft new ones for consideration by senior staff.
Develop and implement processes for monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the impacts of policies, procedures, and programs.
Prepare Community Safety progress reports for distribution within the University and externally.
Provide administrative and project support to the Community Safety Council and other internal safety-related committees and working groups.
Assist in the delivery of the Department's community safety awareness events and awards programs.This position will work closely with senior management in the Community Safety Department, and other departments and committees at York that have a safety mandate to ensure that the Department's policies, procedures, and programs are effectively integrated with other safety related initiatives at York.

**Education**:
University degree such as Business, Public Administration, Law, Criminology, Emergency Management, Planning, Social Sciences or related field or the equivalent such as or four years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

High level of proficiency in research and policy analysis, including drafting of options and recommendations and briefing materials.
Superior level of political acuity, analytical skills and written and verbal communications skills.
Strong time-management and project management skills.
Ability to work with diverse communities and build relationships and consensus on contentious/complex issues.
Ability to design and deliver programming that is sensitive in nature and achieves results.
Demonstrated experience in conducting needs analysis and program evaluation.
Excellent analytical reasoning, problem solving, time management, planning, project management, administrative and organizational skills.
Superior communicator, public speaker, and writer with a strong ability to communicate information effectively to various groups, including people from a wide variety of backgrounds and employment positions and who have divergent perspectives.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and collaborate on cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams, multi-tasking and establishing priorities and meeting deadlines with mínimal direction
Demonstrated experience in researching and developing policies and procedures.
Experience with planning, coordination, and execution of educational events.
Demonstrated awareness and understanding of equity, diversity, inclusiveness, intersectionality, racism, colonialism, ablism, marginalization and imbalance of power.
Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment, diplomacy, and discretion to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrated commitment to client service and professionalism.
