**Job Synopsis**

The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Edmonton Thrift Manager. Under the direction of the Shop Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and modeling a high level of organization and production through recruiting, training and mentoring volunteers.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing volunteer recruiting plans and strategies, orientation of new volunteers, developing and providing job specific training for volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator is the primary contact with all volunteers, providing support, coaching, and training for volunteers in their various roles. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for entering and maintaining all volunteer records and information.

The Volunteer Coordinator is a member of the Edmonton MCC Thrift Management team which assists and supports the Shop Manager in operating and managing the shop.

**Qualifications**

Development and leadership:

- Experience in leading and training volunteers
- Experience using and managing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TicTok) to attract potential new volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages and backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse experiences and life situations
- Sensitivity and awareness of cultural, racial, economic, and socially diverse communities
- Ability to engage and influence others to achieve organizational goals
- Self-motivated and willing to take initiative while at the same time willing to work as a team with staff and volunteers
- Ability to create an atmosphere of a positive Christian presence within the shop

Field Expertise:

- Experience working with volunteers
- Experience with volunteer management software e.g., Volgisitics
- Experience posting images and reels on Facebook / Instagram
- Must be extremely organized and a self-starter
- Strong at Multi-tasking with the ability to prioritize a wide variety of tasks
- Knowledge of the second-hand market with an awareness of regulations regarding selling donated goods
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and waste reduction
- Experience in customer service

Communication expertise:

- Good oral and written communication skills required, using today’s technologies
- Ability to make presentations to churches, partner and community groups for the purpose of volunteer recruitment and sharing of the MCC vision and mission,
- Ability to diplomatically communicate policies and boundaries to volunteers and colleagues.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Duties**:

- Communicate the MCC mission and values and mission of the Thrift Shop in a positive manner to staff, volunteers, donors, and the community at large.
- Participate in staff meetings, retreats,
- Attend MCCA functions as required and represent MCCA values and missions to donors, customers, and the public.
- Act with integrity, reflecting Christian respect for those we serve, including volunteers, customers, and donors.
- Model reconciliation and healing in our daily actions with public, volunteers, core members and staff.
- Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador for MCC mission and values in every interaction with customers and donors
- Share the news about your shop and the network in the community
- Support the staff team as needed to meet the demands of daily operations
- Assist with special events and projects as needed
- Ensure shop policies are understood and adhered to by all team members and volunteers.

Volunteer Management
- Together with the Shop Management Team, develop strategies to meet targets in your areas of focus
- Responsible for reaching threshold in your area of focus
