**Position Overview**

This position reports to the Principal Investigator. This position also works closely with other faculties and Research Coordinators at the Alberta Children's Hospital. The Clinical Research Coordinator will provide support for a clinical trial called Prebiotic supplementation in newly diagnosed type1 diabetes patients, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.This multi-centre trial will take place in three cities (Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon). This position will work closely with the principal investigator in the Faculty of Kinesiology and co-investigators in the Alberta Children's Hospital to execute the research protocol at the Alberta Children's Hospital and the Calgary Diabetes Centre to provide support to the clinical research coordinators running the trial in Edmonton and Saskatoon.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Perform a range of duties to effectively coordinate the multi-centre clinical trial with mínimal supervision
- Manage recruitment and enrollment of participants at local site and support clinical research coordinators at Edmonton and Saskatoon sites
- Organize and ensure all research protocol tasks are completed
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Direct and perform administrative duties (including support of collaborating sites) related to the trial including: organizing and filing of confidential study records, preparing required paperwork for study visits, scheduling research participant visits, reminder calls for research visits, coordinating schedules of staff required for study visits, maintaining financial records and ensuring participant reimbursements for expenses
- Perform complete and accurate data collection and entry as well as basic statistical analysis and production of reports
- Answer research participant's inquiries regarding the study
- Coordinate multi-site storage and shipment of various biological samples (blood, urine, stool, etc.)
- Keep workstations, clinical exam rooms and teaching rooms clean and safe during and after use
- Maintenance of study supplies: Order and replace expired supplies in advance
- Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management
- Facilitates transparent communication with the Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board and Investigators to complete protocol modifications, deviations and renewals
- Raises concerns and appropriate questions with investigators to achieve studies primary objectives.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree preferably within a health-related field
- Previous experience as a clinical trial/clinical research coordinator (3 years minimum)
- Experience in a research environment (3-5 years)
- Experience in the hospital setting is an asset
- Experience with setting up research protocols
- Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities for a multi-centre clinical trial
- Ability to support study coordinators at collaborating research sites
- Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality of participant information
- Ability to manage participant bookings and testing at multiple sites
- Knowledge of University systems and policies (including ethics)
- Computer literacy MS Windows, Word, Excel, MS Outlook
