Description

The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Project Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator this role entails research project management duties and liaison with members of the Faculty of Social Work and the Distress Centre Calgary (DCC). The position requires judgment and decision-making in terms of following outlined study protocols, guidelines, and making recommendations for improvements.

The incumbent needs to be able to evaluate the relevance of research literature, community engagement, and organize and implement research projects in different phases. The incumbent must be in Calgary for in-person meetings and activities, however much of the work could be conducted remotely.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain Ethics submissions
  • Lead to completion of the study methodologies, such as conducting interviews, analyzing data, writing research reports, drafting manuscripts for publication, etc.
  • Assist with submission of grant proposals, including literature reviews, writing first drafts of documents, proof-reading documents (reports, proposals, manuscripts), and developing the grant budget
  • Aid in developing processes, methodology and procedures related to certain aspects of the projects
  • Ensure professional standards in oral and written communication with internal and external stakeholders and team members
  • Communicate with study participants and liaise with project internal and external partners
  • Convey information clearly and to demonstrate professionalism and discretion to study participants
  • Provide supervision and guidance to research assistants
  • Aid in administrative tasks, such as managing payments, reimbursing and paying students, keeping records of expenses, managing expenses, and creating regular financial reports
  • Support in interviewing research assistants and supervising them

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A PhD degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Educational Psychology any mental health related area required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in research project coordination and work experience in research settings is required.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse ethnocultural peoples, strong sociocultural attuned skills, and embracing multicultural values.
  • Strong experience supporting LGBTQ2S+ communities, being an ally, and promoting gender affirmative practices is an asset.
  • Strong skills in developing new processes and procedures in training and qualitative research.
  • Experience mentoring, supervising, and training teams at undergraduate and graduate levels is required.
  • Collaborative leadership skills.
  • Prior experience with qualitative and quantitative research is required for interviews, surveys and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills are required.
  • Strong communication skills (written and interpersonal) are required.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills for presentations and meetings.
  • Flexibility, commitment, and ability to plan meetings (scheduling, location, recruiting participants) are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Word, Power Point, and Excel is required.
  • Experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams is required.
  • Interdisciplinary experience (e.g., policy analysis, legal research, health-based or mental health research) is a strong asset.
  • Experience with SPSS, Qualtrics, and NVivo is required.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft or similar programs is a strong asset.
  • Experience with producing research project reports is required.
  • Strong experience with community and academic knowledge dissemination is required.
  • Demonstrable records and experience with academic and research publications in peer reviewed journals and peer reviewed conference presentations is required (i.e., single author and collaborations).
