The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

At the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, world leaders agreed on a comprehensive strategy for sustainable development. A key agreement opened for signature at Rio was the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The Convention has three objectives: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources.

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is located in Montreal, Canada and is administered by UNEP. This post is located in the Secretariat of the CBD, Office of the Executive Secretary (OES). Under the general guidance of the Acting Executive Secretary and the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Management Officer (OES), the incumbent will carry out the following functions:
**Responsibilities**:
A) Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes / projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions. B) Prepares various written outputs for the Executive Secretary and Deputy Executive Secretary, e.g. draft background papers, concept notes, talking points, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. on issues of relevance to the work of the Convention and its Protocols. C) Participates in missions on issues of relevance to the work of the Convention and its Protocols; follows intergovernmental meetings, prepares summary reports and provides substantive support, as needed. D) Assists in the organization and servicing of intergovernmental meetings, including those of subsidiary bodies to the Convention and the Working Group on Benefit-sharing from the Use of Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources, in accordance with relevant decisions adopted by the Conference of Parties (COP). E) Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc. F) Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources. G) Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies. H) Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme / project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc. and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc. Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions. I) Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities. J) Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. K) Performs other duties as required.

Uses time efficiently.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in sustainable development, management, economics, law, social sciences or a related field is required.

A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
