**Position Profile**
The Black Business Initiative (BBI) is the longest serving Black business development initiative in Canada. We work to address the unique needs confronting Black businesses in Atlantic Canada and to build the community capacity of Black communities across Canada. Since its inception, our organization has grown to be a catalyst for job creation, equitable participation, and advancing economic prosperity across Canada.
The Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative is a federally funded initiative focused on building the capacity of Black-led and Black-serving not-for-profit organizations across Canada. BBI is one of four organizations serving as an Intermediary of the initiative and, to date, has funded over 900 projects with a total of over $25 million. With the initiative now in its final year, BBI is working with funded organizations to tell the story of their impact and to ensure sustainable communications with the network of Black-led not-for-profit organizations that has been created through this initiative. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Special Projects Manager - Communications will lead the implementation of all communications-related projects under SBCCI, as well as the implementation of BBI’s Communications Strategy.
This is a term position with an end date of March 31, 2025.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead BBI’s SBCCI communications and marketing efforts, including participating in a Communications Working Group for all SBCCI Intermediaries.
- Support the SBCCI Project Lead in the management and execution of all SBCCI communications-related projects, such as the _Video Series_ andthe development of an SBCCI Impact Report.
- Develop and support the implementation of a sustainable plan that will support BBI’s engagement with SBCCI-funded organizations both during and after SBCCI.
- Lead the implementation of BBI’s Communications Strategy.
**Position Requirements**
The following qualifications and competencies are required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing roles with a focus on nonprofit or community driven organizations.
- Experience managing complex communications projects.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing communications strategies and managing stakeholder relations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of the experiences of Black businesses and communities in Canada, or willingness to learn.
