Reporting to the Director, Quality, Risk Management, and Patient, Client, Resident & Family Relations, the Quality Improvement Specialist will use expert knowledge and skills in quality and process improvement to provide consultative support and coaching to all Providence Care services, and to facilitate quality and process improvement activities such as process mapping and Kaizen events. This role also supports organization-wide capability building related to quality and process improvement through activities such as learning needs assessments; developing and delivering related education programs and sessions; developing and coordinating a quality and safety leadership walkabout program; coordinating the planning and execution of annual Quality & Safety Week celebration activities; maintaining and growing a repository of QI tools and resources; assisting with the development of the corporate Annual Plan including the coordination and submission of the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP); and leading the coordination of the organization-wide Accreditation process.

**Education & Experience**:

- Master’s in Quality, Risk and Safety or Healthcare Administration; or Combination of related education and comparable experience
- A Regulated Health Professional an asset
- A combination of relevant education and recent related experience may be considered
- Certification in QI methodology e.g. LEAN, Six Sigma Green or Black belt, IHI Improvement Advisor certificate, Advanced level IDEAS program and/or a combination of courses and experience in quality and process improvement tools and methods preferred
- Patient Safety training an asset (e.g. Canadian Healthcare Association Risk & Safety in Health Services Certificate Program; Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) Patient Safety Trainer course) preferred
- Certification in Project Management professional (PMP or CAPM), or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- Certificate in adult education, change management, and/or risk management an asset
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in quality improvement and patient safety in a formal capacity required
- Strong knowledge of QI methodology and/or patient safety concepts, and demonstrated experience with performance measurement, data analysis and quality Improvement methodologies pertaining to quality and patient safety required
- Three to five years’ experience working in a healthcare organization preferred
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience with change management ideally in a healthcare setting
- Three to five years progressive and recent clinical experience in an interdisciplinary environment in a public hospital, long-term care home and/or Community service an asset
- Experience working in a setting that provides mental health services is as asset
- Formal leadership experience in a health care environment an asset

**Position Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Assisting with the development and submission of annual corporate Quality Improvement Plan (QIP)
- Keeping current with Accreditation Canada and Health Standards Organization (HSO) standards and requirements, and the CPSI Canadian Quality and Safety Framework for Health Services
- Serving as Accreditation coordinator - Leading the organization-wide Accreditation Canada Qmentum process, including acting as primary liaison with Accreditation Canada, keeping abreast of new developments, developing the project timeline and communication plan, providing organization-wide education; supporting accreditation teams, and coordinating the survey site visit and post-survey follow-up activities
- Developing and delivering quality and process improvement related education programs and sessions
- Developing and maintaining processes that support a Culture of quality and safety, including developing and coordinating a quality and safety walkabout program
- Developing tools and templates to assist staff in their quality improvement work, and maintaining and growing a repository of QI tools and resources that is easily accessible to all staff and physicians
- Creating a corporate-wide quality and process improvement Champion network
- Coordinating the planning and execution of the annual Quality & Safety Week celebration activities
