**Position Description**

**Construction Manager, Northern Ontario**

- Reporting to the District Manager, Northern Ontario, the Construction Manafer provides overall administrative and technical expertise and support on a number of projects or one very large project. Ultimately responsible for the Project Managers’ performance in their projects’ budget, schedule, general performance and profitability._

**Key Responsibilities **include but are not limited to**:

- Providing exceptional service to clients, suppliers and other stakeholders by responding professionally and with a sense of urgency
- Being an ambassador of the company both internally and externally
- Maintaining excellent relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, public
- Ensuring projects meet corporate goals for safety, quality, budget, schedule and profitability
- Assist in securing new work by participating in estimates, working with subcontractors and/or participating in proposals and presentations
- Ensuring project safety standards and environmental programs are adhered to at all times
- Mentoring, coaching and supervising Project Managers and project staff
- Monitoring and assessing the performance of the project and the Project Manager
- Assisting in all aspects of project planning, estimate reviews when required
- Labor relations - liaising with unions and labor subcontractors
- Ensuring optimum utilizations of subcontractors and suppliers
- Project performance: monitoring of schedule, costs, equipment, manpower, materials, equipment maintenance and inventory, safety & environment and quality control
- Viewpoint: management, control, guidance and training scheduling
- Reviewing project status reports and information on specific incidents with President & CEO
- Assisting in negotiation of claims/disputes with the owner and subs/suppliers
- Overseeing project close-out
- Develop long lasting client relationships by managing client expectations, ensuring construction activities are aligned with customer requirements and identifying opportunities for repeat business.
- Supervising, mentoring, coaching and training project personnel
- Provide guidance and stewardship of project processes and documents, such as project set up, bid packages, subcontract management, drawings, purchase orders, contracts, building permits, change order requests and pricing, RFIs, RFQs, close out etc.
- Manage quality of project accounting and billings, including; project billings and signoff, subcontractor payment certificates, service/work order billings, monthly progress draws and client invoices.
- Manage quality and accuracy of project information (including all of the above) in our computerized project management and accounting system (Viewpoint)
- Liaising with building authorities and regulatory agencies
- Managing the deployment of safety, quality and environmental control plans and compliance.

**Position Requirements**

**Educational & Professional Requirements**:

- Post-secondary diploma/degree in Construction, Building Technology or Engineering
- 10 years of proven experience in project management from project pursuit to project close-out, overseeing commercial construction projects (hard bid, AFP and/or negotiated)
- Technical Diploma, Professional Engineer, C.E.T. Gold Seal Constructor or PMP
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.
- A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques.
- Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation, including OH&S regulations and Building Codes
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
- Familiarity with Labor relations and collective agreement management.
- Familiarity with project accounting systems, Viewpoint an asset.
- First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
- Possess a valid drivers’ license.
