The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health. CMHA facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness.
Fitzroy Centre Clubhouse is a program of CMHA/PEI Division and have been providing recovery focused rehabilitation supports to adults with Mental Illness and Addictions issues for 30 years. Individuals who access Fitzroy Centre Clubhouse look for assistance in a variety of areas including but not limited to: housing, employment, education, skill development, prevocational supports and advocacy.
With funding from Skills PEI, Fitzroy Centre Clubhouse will be able to successfully provide a Work Place Essential Skills Program. The Work Place Essential Skills Program is one Intervention that contributes significantly to participant’s goal attainment and successes in increasing their education requirements for future educational programs and/or competitive employment opportunities.

Instructor-Workplace Essential Skills Program to provide educational development and training to members of Fitzroy Centre Clubhouse.
This is a **one (1) Part-Time Employment (PTE) for 22- week sessions (Exact dates to be confirmed and NO sessions on summer months). **This position will be located at our Charlottetown Office.
**Salary : $28.98/hour x 22 hours x 30 Weeks**

**Job Summary**:
- Assess students in order to create a learning program.
- Plans and implements lessons based on the 9 Essential Skills developed by HRSDC.
- Assists students in GED preparation. Instructs students in the areas of math, science, writing, reading and social studies, the five areas covered in the GED tests.
- Assess, monitors, and communicates each students progress.
- Prepares the necessary reports and documentations required for the program.
- Collaborates with the Program Director as to activities and programs to be incorporated.
- Communicates to Program Director any specific concerns/issues in the classroom in general.
- Establishes procedures of classroom management (Classroom based Adult Basic Education) and/or processes for specific behavioral intervention.
- Designs a well-ordered classroom arrangement and appearance of the learning environment.
- Organizes and participates in Work Ordered Day or Pre-Vocational Skills in the Clubhouse.
- Provides support to students of the program following the Clubhouse Model, and abiding by Clubhouse Standards.
- Monitors the safety and security of students and takes appropriate actions and reports accordingly any security issues that arise
- Ensures proper documentation by keeping an accurate and up to date records of members
- Maintains confidentiality of information
**Requirements**:
**Education**:
- Relevant University or Bachelor’s Degree in Education is a must
- Certificate in Adult Education an advantage
**Experience**:
- 2 to 5 years Teaching Experience at multiple levels (Basic Literacy, Pre-GED, GED)
- Adult Learning Teaching Experience preferred
**Key Skills and Abilities**:
- Mastery in creating lesson plans
- Knowledge of 9 Essential Skills developed by HRSDC
- Knowledge of Principles of Adult learning
- Knowledge of different teaching methodologies
- Good Presentation Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible in work assignments
- Ability to make decisions with mínimal supervision
- Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to multitask in high pressure environment
- Ability to input data using documentation software, electronic client files and evaluation tools
- Innovative with excellent problem solving skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Multimedia tools
- Excellent assessment, crisis intervention, problem solving and organizational skills
**Other Requirements**
- Valid PEI Teacher’s License
- Vehicle and valid driver’s license required
- A satisfactory and current criminal records and vulnerable sector check
- CPR/First Aid
- **An asset to this position is a solid knowledge, sensitivity, and/or lived experience relating to the issues of mental health and addictions. **_
**Hours of work**: 22 hours/week in Charlottetown. Some changes in teaching schedule maybe required
