Under the direction of the Director, Student and Career Development, the Employment Coach works collaboratively as part of the Career Development (CD) team to provide career development and coaching services to a diverse group of students and alumni, empowering them to make informed employment decisions, develop job-search strategies, and work towards their employment goals and transition to employment. The incumbent conducts career development workshops, performs individual coaching to facilitate entry in the workplace. In addition, the incumbent promotes graduates and programs to employers while ensuring productive working relationships with business and industry.

In consultation with the CD team, the incumbent develops and updates employment resources and workshops while also engaging in special projects that support the department’s goals, which may involve working collaboratively with campus partners and/or participating in campus-wide committees and/or events to enhance students’ and graduates’ career development success. The incumbent facilitates a variety of workshops to support career development by utilizing principles of adult learning and Universal Design Learning (UDL).

The incumbent actively promotes services to the campus community, current and prospective students and alumni by assisting with website and portal content and participating in pop-up events, Open House and Convocation.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Student and Alumni Support**

The incumbent provides guidance, direction and support to students and alumni by taking on a coaching approach to service delivery. Career Development coaching requires sensitivity, active listening skills, and the ability to question without judgment, especially when working with students who are discouraged or have identified barriers to reaching their career goals.
- Coach students and graduates individually and in group settings, presenting them with the options and avenues available to succeed in their pursuit of employment.
- Assist individuals in developing job readiness and marketing skills/tools (cover letter, resume, portfolio, etc.) and job search strategies, including the appropriate use of social media sites such as LinkedIn.
- Offer personalized guidance based on student’s program and employment goals.
- Prepare students with interview techniques specific to their industry.
- Conduct mock interviews with students and provide feedback on their strengths and areas for development.
- Identify barriers to employment, consult and refer to other service departments and community resources as appropriate.
- Research labour market and employment trends and incorporate information into 1:1 coaching and workshops
- Communicate how local and Canadian industry sectors are rapidly changing and how technology influences employer recruiting activities.
- Offer guidance on leveraging Generative AI effectively.
- Support students in increasing self-confidence by helping them develop personal brand awareness
- Provide guidance and support in developing effective networking strategies, empowering them to build meaningful connections and advance their connections with employers.
