**SUMMARY OF THE POSITION**
Reporting directly to the Head of Program Design and GEDSI Specialist, the Project Design and Research Officer will work across a diverse range of practice areas with relevant staff, to support the design and development of high-quality project designs and funding proposals, based on Cowater’s key institutional clients, with a focus on Global Affairs Canada.

Cowater's work is focused entirely on initiatives located in developing and emerging market countries. Consequently, travel to these countries may be required for carrying out specific proposal development related assignments.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
Project Design and Proposal Development
- Support / carry out desk research and data collection, including on key development challenges in different country contexts, global best practice and learning, donor and country government priorities.
- Support organization of, and participate in, stakeholder consultations and scoping missions.
- Conduct analysis and synthesis of research and stakeholder consultation findings, and present key findings to proposal development teams.
- Work in close collaboration with proposal development teams, including technical specialists, and Project Managers / Directors to support and actively inform development of project methodologies, and innovative development approaches and solutions.
- Engage with Cowater project teams, in coordination with HQ Project Managers/Directors and local partners in countries of implementation to collect information and inform approaches.
- Write and deliver compelling technical proposals, ensuring full compliance with donor requirements and internal quality standards, and meeting set deadlines.

General Business Development
- Support development of communication / promotional materials, including capability statements, program impact reports, and donor correspondence, in support of various business development opportunities.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of the donor landscape, including supporting research and analysis of prospective funding opportunities.
- Stay abreast of research, external trends, and innovation in relevant practice areas / sectors, including but not limited to: women’s empowerment and GEDSI; education, maternal, newborn and child health; environment and natural resources management; climate resilient development; livelihoods and agriculture development; conflict prevention and peacebuilding; and trade facilitation.
- Coordinate and share resources and knowledge across different project design and proposal development processes, including research and learning on sector and country-specific development challenges, priorities, best practices, and programming trends.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**

**Education**:

- A master's degree in a relevant discipline (i.e., economics, political science, international development, business administration, etc.) or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience and Essential Skills:

- Minimum 5 years’ experience in supporting design, development and/or implementation of social development initiatives.
- Superior proposal writing and editing skills, in English; French writing skills will be considered a strong asset.
- Excellent research, analytical, and technical skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative, and work within a dynamic and fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational, and coordination skills, with a focus on results.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, including an ability to build and maintain productive relationships based on trust and mutual respect with team members, clients, and partners.
- General knowledge and understanding of global sustainable development challenges, principles, and agenda.
- Knowledge of results-based management principles, and understanding of intersectional gender-based analysis-informed approaches.
- Mastery of most common IT tools (MS Word, Excel, PPT, Teams).
- Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism.

Language Proficiency:

- Fluency in written and spoken English; Fluency in French considered an asset.
