Manager of Communications

The Manager of Communications at the BC Chicken Marketing Board plays a pivotal role in managing and executing the organization's communication strategies. This position is integral in ensuring that clear, accurate, and timely information is conveyed to growers, industry stakeholders, media, and the public. The Manager of Communications will also support marketing initiatives, manage social media channels, and provide strategic communications guidance across the organization. This role requires a proactive communicator with strong writing, editing, and project management skills, as well as a solid understanding of the poultry industry and its related challenges.
**Responsibilities**:
1. **Grower Communication**:
- Produce and distribute newsletters, presentations, and other communication materials tailored to growers.
- Regularly update growers on industry developments, best practices, and regulatory changes through various channels.
2. **Proofreading and Editing**:
- Review and edit all communication materials for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Ensure that all written content adheres to the Board’s tone and style guidelines.
3. **Updating Communications and Outreach**:
- Continuously assess and update the Board’s communication strategies and outreach efforts to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
- Implement new communication tools and platforms as necessary.
4. **Story Writing and Media Inquiries**:
- Write engaging stories and content that highlight the Board’s initiatives, successes, and industry insights.
- Serve as the point of contact for media inquiries, providing accurate and timely information.
5. **Cross-Departmental Communication**:
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure important issues and educational content are effectively communicated.
- Facilitate the flow of information within the organization, promoting transparency and cohesion.
6. **Industry Trend Analysis**:
- Stay informed about industry trends, challenges, and innovations.
- Make recommendations to adjust communication strategies and practices based on industry insights.
7. **Presentations to the Board and Industry**:
- Prepare and deliver presentations to the Board, growers, and industry stakeholders as required.
- Communicate complex information in a clear and compelling manner.
8. **Annual Report Leadership**:
- Lead the design, writing, and production of the Board’s annual report.
- Ensure the report is comprehensive, visually appealing, and effectively communicates the Board’s achievements and goals.
9. **Project-Based Communication Support**:
- Provide communications support for various projects as needed.
- Offer consultation and guidance on communication strategies and tools for project teams.
10. **Emergency Response Communication (HPAI & EOC)**:
- Develop and implement crisis communication strategies related to High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) protocols.
- Act as the primary contact for emergency communications, ensuring all stakeholders are informed promptly and accurately.
11. **Marketing and Social Media**:
- Oversee social media activities, ensuring alignment with the Board's brand and messaging.
- Manage sponsorship opportunities, building and maintaining relationships with key partners.
12. **Liaise** with other SM5, BC Chicken Growers Association, and provincial and national partners as required
13. **Responds to Board requests and/or provides collective input, as needed.**

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a communications role, preferably within the agricultural or food industry.
- Proven experience in crisis communication, content creation, and social media management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong proofreading and editing abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, and familiarity with design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to respond to changing priorities and needs.
Pay: $50,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
