This position is dependent on Conservation Halton being awarded funding.

Your Opportunity

The Forestry Department team’s role is to provide support and services to both private landowners within the CH watershed and internal client base of Conservation Halton. The Forestry Field Labourer, will be involved in tree planting and maintenance, invasive species and forest management projects.

Reporting to the Forestry Technician Lead, the Field Labourer will assist with:
Implementation of tree planting - planting, survival assessments, outreach, data entry, site preparation and tending
Seed Collection
Forest management - inventory data collection, tree marking, forest pest/disease surveys, property boundary marking
Invasive species management - inventorying, mapping, and pesticide spraying
Work in accordance with Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals such as Covid-19 PPE protocols
Other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
Previous work experience in a related field
Working towards a university degree or college diploma in forestry or forest management
Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends as required
Effective communication skills, both written and oral
Efficient problem solving, multi-tasking and creative thinking skills
Knowledge of local ecosystems
Native Ontario tree, shrub, and plant identification
Green Patch CSA approved safety boots, 6”-8” to cover ankle made of suede or leather material are required
A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class “G”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required
Experience driving a 4×4 vehicle and towing a trailer is an asset
Able to travel to a site not serviced by public transportation
Eligibility Requirements
Must be a resident of Ontario and legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be between 16 and 30 years of age upon commencement of employment
