**Trade Investment and Food Safety Division**
The focus of this division is to expand and diversify Alberta’s food and bio-product manufacturing sector in local and global markets while also providing effective food safety assurance systems.

**Intergovernmental and Trade Relations Branch**
The branch provides analysis, advice, and coordinates a number of files, engagements and negotiations in the areas of intergovernmental relations, international market access and development, domestic and international trade policy, investment attraction in support of Agriculture and Irrigation’s strategic and operational outcomes to advance industry growth and diversification.

The **Green Certificate Program** is an integral component of GoA Mandate of focusing on job creation and strengthening Alberta’s economy, through this skills based development program for the agriculture sector. Within the Trade, Transportation and Labour Section of Trade, Transportation and Labour Branch, the Green Certificate Program is training Alberta’s high school students for their future in our province’s agriculture industries.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Provincial Green Certificate Program Coordinator is the key resource for high school student apprentice style agriculture education and is responsible for the design, delivery and evaluation of training for the future primary agriculture labour force. The Green Certificate program (GCP) exists to increase the production efficiency and competitiveness of primary agriculture in Alberta by training high school students with a curriculum developed by industry, for industry needs.

Primary functions include:
**Managing the Green Certificate Program**:

- Lead a team consisting of five regional coordinators and one provincial administrator, providing them with direction, guidance, and making decisions to effectively operate the program.
- partnership development - managing, building & maintaining relationships with the regional delivery partners:

- Lethbridge College
- Olds College
- Lakeland College
- Northwest Polytechnic

**Working with Alberta’s Agriculture industry**:

- working with industry and industry associations to review and develop agriculture based apprenticeship style job curriculum
- analysis of industry needs to develop new curriculum
- internal process management, program marketing

**Working with Alberta’s Education industry**:

- Alberta Education and post-secondary colleges to develop and deliver competency based work training
- Collaborate with Alberta Education & their off campus education program of study to ensure the alignment & success of the GCP

This position requires a diverse knowledge of the agriculture sector's labour skills needs. It demands the ability to manage diverse activities and competing needs of several groups, priorities & projects. It requires thinking at a practical and theoretical level and the ability to connect abstract concepts and then converting them into clear, practical goals that are easy to grasp and achieve.

There is often a need for creative solutions and to frequently modify approaches. The impact of the position is provincial, encompassing all agriculture sectors, Alberta Education, high schools across the province and post-secondary institutions. The role also collaborates with AGI personnel, various government departments, and oversees the Green Certificate Program team in delivering this unique agricultural education initiative within Alberta.
