**Department Overview**
- The SIU department provides investigative services, technical expertise, and is a resource for Claims Services nationally. The SIU department’s vision is of world class performance and technical expertise dedicated to the appropriate investigation of insurance claims consistent with the highest standards of professional, ethical and legal conduct. The SIU department investigates files where there is a need for a more in-depth and specialized investigation beyond the scope of Claims Services. Where fact-finding is required, an SIU investigation is conducted in a fair, objective, thorough, timely and professional manner, enabling TDI to objectively make a determination of the facts and circumstances, appropriately addressing fraudulent and non-meritorious matters, and facilitating the resolution of meritorious claims.
- Investigators are accountable for the field investigation, evidence gathering and providing technical expertise/insights for assigned investigative tasks, and for providing quality technical resources to the regional operations related to fraud investigations. This includes making recommendations to the Investigative Advisors on the course of investigations. Investigators are responsible for establishing and maintaining a network of contacts, and developing relationships with all levels of law enforcement and other investigative agencies. They may also participate in the investigation of organized fraud rings, as required.
- This position requires the Investigators to be in the field a majority of the time and therefore the ability to self-manage, work independently and use strong judgement on task prioritization is essential.
**Job Requirements**
- Take direction and instruction from Investigative Advisors and Group Managers, SIU, and ability to conduct thorough and detailed field tasks and investigations of suspect fraud
- Carry out specific data/evidence collection and investigation requests
- Conduct in-person interviews of customers, insureds and witnesses; to assess credibility and document any inconsistencies in evidence, all at an expert level
- Paraphrases and summarizes interviews, secures interview recording
- Observe/evaluate vehicle inspections, conduct medical facility visits, conduct neighborhood canvasses and on-scene investigations
- Prepare reliable investigation reports and provide recommendations based on collected evidence and knowledge of insurance industry
- Direct counsel on Examination under oath proceedings
- Provide testimony in criminal and civil proceedings
- Assists Investigative Advisors with their investigations
- Input and maintain internal data for reporting purposes
- JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Background/Experience- 5+ years investigation experience
- Significant investigation and interview experience
- Fraud investigator registration a bonus
- Cognitive interview training
- Minimum college-level working proficiency
- Location Halifax, St. John or Montreal
- Bilingual is required - ability to fluently write and speak in both English and French
Functional Skills- Must possess excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to have difficult conversations in person
- Strong professionalism and ability to work with confidential information
- Expert knowledge and experience in conducting fraud investigation
- Knowledge of Insurance products, systems, policies and procedures and Insurance Act and related legislation
- Excellent knowledge of legal processes (criminal and civil)

- Excellent knowledge of casualty, accident benefit, residential and automobile physical damage insurance, and the claims adjustment processes associated with each
