Director, Member Support Services (MSS)

The BC Principals and Vice-Principals Association (BCPVPA) is seeking a Director, Member Support Services to join our organization at an exciting time in our Associations history.

**Application deadline**: April 27, 2024

**Projected start date**: August 1, 2024, or by negotiation

**Position**: Full-time, Continuing

The BCPVPA is a not-for-profit organization that promotes excellence in leadership for 2,700 school-based and district Principals and Vice-Principals in British Columbias K-12 public school system. The BCPVPA advocates on behalf of its members, and on issues of importance to public education; designs and delivers professional learning and leadership development programs; and represents and supports the employment relationship interests and welfare of its members.

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working with both Senior Staff and Support Staff, the Director of Member Support Services will continue the work of building the BCPVPAs reputation for excellent employment relationship support.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
The BCPVPAs next Director, Member Support Services (MSS)

has demonstrated success as a district and/or school leader in the BC public school system or equivalent.

has extensive and demonstrated knowledge of the BC School Act and School Law, the roles and responsibilities of Principals and Vice-Principals, and the governance model of the BC public education system.

has knowledge and demonstrated experience in human resources and/or employment law, with demonstrated strengths in negotiation, contract administration, representation of workers undergoing investigation, and dispute resolution.

has demonstrated successful experience providing support to Principals and Vice-Principals, and the ability to develop and nurture positive relationships with multiple sector partner individuals and groups.

**Requirements of the Role**:
The BCPVPAs next Director, Member Support Services (MSS)

is a key member of the BCPVPAs Senior Staff, representing not only Member Support Services but the BCPVPAs broader goals and objectives

provides support and guidance to members, both individually and collectively, regarding employment relationship issues and the negotiation of personal services contracts

provides one-to-one support and representation for members undergoing workplace or Teachers Regulation Branch (TRB) investigations

consults as required with the BCPVPAs external legal counsel

liaises with school districts to advocate on behalf of members

designs and delivers workshops and presents on legal and fiduciary issues and matters related to school leadership, employment relationships, and work and non-work-related prevention and disability policies and procedures

provides advice and support for members related to the BC Teachers Pension Plan, short term disability leaves, the BCPVPA Long-Term Disability Plan, Occupational Health and Safety, and Workers Compensation

works collaboratively with the Professional Learning department and assists in the development and presentation of some Professional Learning workshops

provides advice and information to the BCPVPAs Board of Directors as requested by the Executive Director

collaborates in the development of print and online content and communications to promote knowledge of personal contracts, pensions, and the fiduciary responsibilities of school leaders

liaises with the provincial Contract Advisory Committee (CAC), and supports and builds capacity with CAC representatives in the BCPVPAs district Chapters

has current knowledge of best practice in human resources and labour relations

has excellent and demonstrated skill in complex conflict resolution

has a willingness and ability to travel within the province as required, and to serve BCPVPA members beyond the normal workday

can work collaboratively with the BCPVPAs education and sector partners

can work both independently and as part of a collaborative leadership team

assists in the development of the BCPVPAs annual budget

supports and fulfills the objectives of the Strategic Plan and assists in the development and implementation of the associated operational plan

is dynamic, resourceful, and, innovative

has excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills

in addition to the ability to effectively speak and write in English, proficiency in other languages especially French is an asset
