Parslow Heritage Consultancy is hiring experienced archaeological field technicians for the 2024 field season. The Field Technician will work alongside and support the research of community stakeholders and Indigenous field representatives. You will conduct archaeological surveys, testing, and data recovery.

**As an Archaeological Field Technician you will**:

- Participate in archaeological surveys, assessments, and excavations, sometimes in remote locations with harsh terrain and elements (hot and cold temperatures)
- Participate in artifact identification
- Collect and screen soil samples as required; carry, shift, move loads of soil
- Maintain accurate and detailed field records, including notes, sketches, photographs, and digital data
- Organize and catalog artifacts, specimens, and samples collected during fieldwork
- Work alongside community stakeholders and Indigenous field representatives
- Engage with local communities and educating them about the significance of archaeological work
- Promote a respectful and culturally sensitive approach when interacting with community members
- Gain a better understanding of Ontario’s history, and the consulting archaeology industry in Ontario
- Work in a variety of locations across Ontario

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in archaeology/anthropology or related field (completed or in progress)
- At minimum, successful completion of an archaeological field school but preference given to those who have worked in consulting archaeology
- Physically fit with the ability and the willingness to perform physically demanding and repetitive movement tasks: (e.g., hand shoveling, troweling, screening soil/earth), work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements (hot & cold temperatures) and remote locations; Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and carry up to 20 lbs
- Able to perform labour intensive activities that will mean kneeling, walking, carrying heavy loads
- Ability to walk/ hike/ trek up to 20km a day
- Ability to travel and hotel overnight (double occupancy). Per Diem will be provided
- Ability to convene at rallying points for transportation to/from site

Pay: $23.18-$27.29 per hour

Schedule:

- 10 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- No weekends
