**Overview of the role**:
Reporting to the Board of Directors (BOD) Chair and the VEC Board, the General Manager provides innovation leadership working collaboratively with the management team to ensure effective and efficient delivery of all services within VEC's business activities. The General Manager provides strategic direction and operational advice to the Board while maintaining a focus on cooperative principles. While all VEC employees ultimately report to the General Manager, the General Manager specifically delegates and coordinates the duties as seen fit to the management team and will directly supervise their work.

**What you would do**:

- Develop, refine and implement the board-approved VEC Business Plan;
- Oversee daily business operations and administration;
- Oversee procurement and build and maintain vendor relationships;
- Ensure the organization practices environmental stewardship;
- Promote/Embed B-Corp values and community engagement;
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with VEC staff, Board, and members;
- Engage in the Cooperative sector to build a network of coop partners and allies;
- Ensure that VEC is financially stable and is operated in accordance with the VEC Finance and Risk Management Policy;
- Prepare annual budget for BOD to approve; manage approved budget, control expenditures, enhance revenue sources, and ensure cost efficient operations are implemented and optimized;
- Develop the culture of inclusiveness embedded in the VEC HR Policy;
- Implement effective hiring and retention strategies;
- Develop, support and empower managers and other staff;
- Evaluate and manage employee performance through regular scheduled check-ins and reviews;
- Provide motivational leadership to the team;
- Ensure workplace health and safety.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in Business Management, Masters in Business Administration or equivalent experience;
- A minimum of three years of experience managing businesses of similar size to VEC;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of cooperative business dynamics and functions;
- Highly organized, meticulous attention to detail;
- Technologically savvy;
- Demonstrated investment in personal development and communications training;
- Ability to inspire, motivate and lead a team;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, creative problem solver;
- Strong work ethic and role model;
- Desire to work and co-own a business in a worker-owned co-operative model.

**Location**:The position is open those legally entitled to work in Canada and is located in Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. A relocation bonus will be considered for those living in Canada.
