**Finance Officer (Term, Parental Leave Cover)**

**Role Overview**

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the management and finance team in meeting the financial requirements of the organization and project funders. This is a wonderful opportunity for a finance professional with 3+ years of experience to join a passionate, dedicated team, implementing domestic and global policy and advocacy programs. Action Canada is seeking a professional with experience in non-profit or civil-society organizations. Experience with Global Affairs Canada grants is an asset.

The Finance team consists of the Director of Finance, the Finance Officer, and the Junior Project Accountant. The Finance Officer reports to the Director of Finance and works closely with project and program managers as required. Our small and nimble team works closely together to support the important work of the organization.

**Who You Are**

You are a finance professional with a strong eye for detail, excellent Excel skills, experience with reporting on multi-year grants, and broad financial experience, ideally in the non-profit sector. You are a team player and are excited to work within a small but growing organization. **Primary Job Responsibilities**

**Institutional Grant Support**:

- Coordinate with external partners to meet grant requirements
- Oversee financial expenditures, reporting, and budgets related to Action Canada’s _Rights from the Start_ project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, and other grants reporting as required. Including grant budget administration, analysis, and monitoring
- Maintain reporting calendars for grant reports and scheduling of activities to comply with grant agreements and financial policies
- Coordinate with the finance and program teams to ensure that all financial and reporting obligations are met
- Conduct financial systems information extraction
- Assist with grant audit preparation
- Assist in analysis of funding and grant contracts to ensure complete and accurate implementation of systems and processes for funder and organizational reporting
- Support institutional grant funding reports and audit compliance, coordinate with program teams to ensure that all reporting obligations are met
- Verify expenditures allocated to grant-funded projects to comply with grant agreements
- Prepare regular and special reports on budget commitments, expenditures, revenues, and forecasts
- Support optimized accounting processes, internal control procedures, and best financial practices
- Assist with yearly organization financial audit and grants audits preparation. Prepare supporting documents and analysis as may be required

**General Financial Support**:

- Perform accounting operations in support of programs and support staff on the management of their budgets
- Process, maintain, verify, and reconcile payroll for the organization, including all necessary deductions and other payroll related activities as required
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow, ensuring optimal levels are maintained to meet grant requirements
- Support the preparation of regular internal and external financial reporting (Word/Excel) including financial statements and program expense reports
- Support the Director of Finance with financial reporting templates, financial correspondence, and other grant financial deliverables
- Assist with budget administration, analysis, and monitoring
- Develop and implement internal systems and procedures to support the organization's financial obligations as required
- Assist with yearly organizational audit preparation
- Support senior staff and other project staff on the management of their budgets
- Respond to inquiries and investigations
- Exercise a high standard of confidentiality regarding documents of a sensitive nature
- Other duties as may be required by the Employer.

**Qualifications**
- Eligible to work in Canada
- University Degree in related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in preparing project financial reports, ideally in not-for-profit organizations
- Advanced level of Excel knowledge and ability
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with Global Affairs Canada and/or other large institutional grant funders would be a significant asset
- CGA or CPA designation would be a strong asset
