The Summer Camp Program Coordinator is responsible for translating the camp framework created by the Camp Director and Assistant Director into the specific daily age-appropriate programs and activities for campers aged 6-16. Programming must be of quality, while also stimulating and safe. Programs need to encourage growth, be educational and demonstrate Jewish values. In addition, this position is responsible for the groups on their daily out trips. It might be necessary to assist the counselors when ratios are low or an additional staff presence is needed.

As a leader you will be required to promote and model a professional attitude toward your work. This includes setting an example for staff, following Camp Shalom’s standards of service and keeping certain information confidential. It is expected that this individual will respond to the needs of campers, parents and staff with flexibility and a willingness to resolve any issues that may emerge.

Key Responsibilities
- Create age-appropriate programs that incorporate the goals, objectives and philosophy of the Jewish Community Centre. Programs should blend Jewish culture and values with fun.
- Ensure that camp programs, activities and staff adhere to camp policies and procedures.
- Respond to changing needs of Camp with flexibility and willingness to work in required areas.
- Create a positive and inviting environment for campers and parents with friendly and supportive customer service.
- Inform Camp Director of any camper, parent or staff concerns.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate records for each child, particularly related to their health, safety and well-being in the ePact system. This includes medical forms, immunization forms and reports from staff and parents.
- Ensure photocopies of all Medical Forms are accounted for and distributed between the counselor’s binders and camp administration medical binder.
- Ensure all staff are aware of necessary behavioral information regarding campers and that they are properly equipped with medical information provided by the parents.
- Assist in coordinating staff social functions.
- Present details of in-day programming and activities to counselors during morning meetings. Participate and lead staff warm up.
- Ensure that camper’s needs are being met by the staff and by the programming.
- Provide guidance in learning healthy problem-solving skills and providing guidelines such as redirecting, positive language and positive reinforcement.
- Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend the conversation.
- Plan and implement experiences that foster an understanding of a variety of cultures and provide experiences and play materials that respect all aspects of diversity.
- Mentor and support counselors with their interactions with campers.
- Lead at least one activity with Counselor-in-training group.
- Maintain Camp Social media private staff page and public page in accordance with JCCGV and Camp policies.
- Attend and help lead mandatory staff training (June 24th-28th)
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

***Responsibilities with Parents**:

- Respect the individuality of all parents/families and be sensitive to the stresses they may experience.
- Ensure that daily communication with parents is open, respectful and confidential.
- Discuss the program’s daily events with families.
- Accommodate the families’ instructions for daily routines within the group routines wherever possible.
- Play an active role in keeping families updated regarding Camp information.
- Make them aware of any concerns, incidents, disciplinary issues, or medical incidents that may have occurred over the course of the day and be available to answer any questions they may have.

**End of the summer**:

- Assist with the cleanup of camp and inventory count for all supplies.
- Make sure counselors clean and disinfect all camp gear, supplies, and rooms that were used over the course of the summer.
- Return all camp gear to the camp bins and place back into storage fully labeled.
- Organize and place all written materials, camp schedules, program plans, shopping lists, supplies and equipment purchase orders, resources used (websites, books etc.), contacts and phone numbers of guests, camper’s medical forms, accident reports, notes based on the debriefing meetings, staff evaluations and finally a written review and report of the camp and suggestions and comments for next year, into a binder with an index and dividers for each section, to be stored for the following year.

**Education/Experience**
- Previous experience working within a day camp setting.
- Post-secondary certificate or diploma in recreation management or related field or a combination of experience and education that will demonstrate your ability to succeed in this position.
- Clear criminal record check.
- Standard First Aid.
- Class 5 driver’s license preferred
