Sprott Shaw Language College offers a wide range of programs in Vancouver, Toronto and Victoria for English language learners from all over the world. We strive to provide international students of all ages with valuable learning experiences in Canada.

This year, our SSLC Global Leaders Summer Camp is focused on some of the topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations. The program is for international students from 13 to 17 years old. Students will have an opportunity to learn about and gain insight into the concepts of SDGs, and explore possible individual and collective choices or actions to make a difference in the world. The summer camp consists of English language instruction based on SDG themes in the morning, and SDG topic-based activities, outings or project work in the afternoon, as well as weekend / evening recreational activities and a trip to the Rocky Mountains. The summer camp will take place at the University of British Columbia Vancouver Campus.

Position Outline

Leading a staff (shift work) of around 30, the Residential Campus Director is responsible for overseeing and working with the Academic Manager, the Activity Manager and the Operations Manager to ensure the success of all aspects of the summer camp, including budgeting & planning, academics, HR, accommodation, activities, logistics and operations. The Campus Director is required to also ensure smooth and appropriate communication and representation of SSLC between and among each and all individual Camp teams as well as agencies, parents and group chaperones, UBC departments and their staff, and address any concerns that may arise.

Time Commitment:
May 22 to June 16: 15hrs/week
June 19 to Aug 18: Full time

The Residential Campus Director is required to live at our UBC residence from Camp start to Camp End ( July 7, ~Aug 13). Room and Board are provided for free.

**Responsibilities**:

- Oversee the operation of the entire Camp and all academic as well as recreational activities; meet with all / individual Camp team members regularly to be briefed or updated and provide instructions
- Respond to emergencies at all times, manage conflicts and address concerns in any and all aspect of the Camp operation and delivery
- Control expenditure and stay within budget
- Maintain prompt, professional and appropriate communication with all parties involved
- Manage Camp Human Resources, hiring, training, scheduling, payroll, performance assessment and discipline
- Ensure students’ safety, security and well-being as well as discipline on / off UBC campus, including inside the residence
- Maintain positive, enthusiastic and supportive environment for all camp participants

Qualifications:

- Experience in working with young international students in an ESL setting/ Language school (preferable in a managerial role and/or teaching)
- Experience in working at a residential summer camp/summer camp ( preferable in a managerial role)
- Interest in SDG - Sustainable Development Goals as set out by the UN.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Experience in project management / event organization
- Excellent conflict resolution skills
- Experience in leading a large team
- Strong computer software skills, including Word, Excel, digital filing & communication
- Outgoing and enthusiastic personality with ability to accept feedback and work to improve
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment in a multicultural setting
- A valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C / AED
- Ability to provide current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
