Head Coach

The North Bay Titans are a not-for-profit swim club that promotes amateur competitive swimming in the North Bay and area within the jurisdiction of Swim Ontario and Swimming Canada. The Titans train at the North Bay YMCA Aquatics Centre as part of the Northeastern Ontario Region (NEOR). The North Bay Titans stress the importance of developing and maintaining well-rounded, goal-oriented and competitive swimmers. Just as important to our team is ensuring we have fun in a strong team environment.
- Program Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-tiered, swim training program, backed by a robust swimmer evaluation process, with the support of Lead Coaches.
- Coaching
- Create a fun and inviting learning environment to ensure a positive member experience.
- Initiate, develop, and maintain positive relationships with swimmers, their parents, coaching staff.
- Act as the Lead Coach for the Titans’ High Performance and Senior level groups at scheduled practices and swim meets.
- Following the Titans’ Code of Conduct policy, observe, report, and recommend any disciplinary and or administrative actions promptly.
- Team Growth, Sustainability and Outreach
- Support and grow the Titans’ Mentoring Program which provides opportunities for our Performance and Senior swimmers to actively engage with our younger swimmers, during training sessions, in support of the Lead Coaches.
- Support and help organize ‘full team’ activities that connect all our groups to create one team.
- Support community outreach opportunities that the Titans swimmers participate in.
- Represent the North Bay Titans Swim Team at scheduled NEOR, Swim Ontario and/or Swim Canada events and functions.
- Look and develop opportunities to ensure Titans’ Club sustainability.
- Leadership and Oversight
- Actively lead, develop, and supervise a team of coaches ensuring overall coaching goals and program objectives are being met daily, monthly, and yearly for various levels of swimmers in line with the Head Coach’s vision. The Titans currently have a Lead Coaches for our Junior and Age-Group swimmers.
- Actively support and bring forward development opportunities for Coaching team.
- Planning
- Develop a yearly meet schedule for the season and ensure entries to meets are submitted. The 2024-2025 Season meet schedule has already been drafted.
- Collaborate with the YMCA to develop a swim training and home meet schedule.
- Assist Meet Management for Titans’ hosted meets. The Titans have two time trials and two invitational swim meets planned for the 2024-2025 season.
- Ensure suitable coaching coverage is provided for all swim practises and meets.
- Communications
- Maintain clear communication with the Titans’ membership on matters relating to swim practices, swim meets and other Executive sanctioned events.
- Respond to member questions regarding Titan’s programs, policies, and procedures in a timely, professional manner.
- Represent and liaise with Swim Canada and Swim Ontario to ensure that the Club practises, pertaining to coaching and athlete development maintain in line with the guidance provided.
- Support the updating of Titans’ social media and webpages
- Swimming Progression and Feedback
- Develop and communicate, with the support of the Lead Coaches and Executive, a swimmer promotion model that clearly articulates the expectations for swimmers to be advanced from one group to the next. This model should include a structured evaluation process that will be shared with parents and swimmers as part of their ongoing development.
- Administration
- Developing Meet event schedules for all Titans home swim meets and time trials.
- Completing all swimmer entries for in town and out-of-town swim meets.
- Ensuring that all Lead and Support Coaches maintain certifications and good standing with Swim Ontario and Swim Canada.
- Ensuring yearly club affiliation is completed and up to date.
- Level II achievement in Swimming Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), however level I would be considered with previous relevant coaching experience.
- Minimum 5 years coaching experience with a competitive swim team.
- Experience coaching in a competitive swim team environment.
- Experience and knowledge of creating graduated training plans for multiple age groups.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Proven experience in managing various people’s expectations with the ability to resolve conflict effectively.
- Certifications in dryland training in support of an effective swim program are considered an asset.
- Experience using ACTIVE Hy-Tek Team Management Software considered an asset.
- NLS & Standard First Aid are considered an asset.
- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Must pass all appropriate & required background checks and Safe Sport Certification.
- Salary starting at $72,000 based on experience and qualifications.
- Vacation - 3 Weeks paid.
