Financial Analyst

Reporting to Manager, Financial Reporting, the Financial Analyst will assist with financial functions, such as, assessing, budgeting, planning, project control and cost control. Conduct analysis and provide insight and recommendations regarding variations to budget and forecasts. Complete month end closing processes, including account reconciliations.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Cost Controller with fixed asset activities, including review and analysis of variations to budget/ approved projects.
- Analyze and interpret data and make comparative analyses; study proposed changes in methods and materials and provide recommendations for changes to the Finance management team. Assist with implementation of approved changes.
- Responsible for weekly posting to GL of costing and utilities, following report review. Report any discrepancies or issues.
- Maintain and implement internal controls to strengthen the internal control network, drive improvements and ensure alignment with financial policies.
- Assist in managing, controlling, budgeting and reporting spending. Investigating key drivers to identify root causes of variation to budget and forecast for sales and expenses.
- Communicate, engage and present to the corporate finance team findings, improvements, results on a monthly/ weekly basis.
- Assist Budgeting Manager in development of annual budget including forecast, cost center expenses, capital spending and overhead spend.
- Month end closing processes including journal entries and account reconciliations; ie: depreciation, inventory reconciliation, PPV (purchase price variance)/ FX exchange, intercompany sales & COGS, etc.
- Assist Cost Controller in maintaining costs in the system; requires a working knowledge of the BOMs (bill of materials) and how to update the standard costing.
- Assist in ad hoc projects with the Finance team.
- Education & Experience:
- University Bachelor’s Degree in Administration, Commerce, Economics and/or Accounting & Finance
- 1 to 2 years' general accounting and/or auditing experience; previous manufacturing experience is considered an asset
- Proficiency in MS Office is desired with advanced experience of MS Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Previous experience with an ERP System, Business Intelligence and report writing software (Insider, Oracle, Crystal); preference for Visual Manufacturing (bill of material & standard costing)
