Job Summary
The
_Functional Safety Manager_ will be based in
_Markham Ontario, Kanata Ontario or Farmington Hills MI_ and is a hybrid role.
As our Functional Safety Manager, you will be responsible for leading functional safety activities for products being developed by the global engineering team.
What a typical day looks like:
- Lead safety-related activities for E/E systems and ensure products, work products and processes followed meet ISO 26262 requirements as defined in the Flex Product Development Process- Coordinate definition of the DIA together with the customer and the Flex cross-functional team- Plan, coordinate, and continuously monitor progress of required activities in the safety lifecycle (safety plan) and initiate escalation when needed to keep project on track- Support activities and work products owned by systems, hardware, and software engineers- Coordinate necessary activities with project team members to ensure confidence in the use of software tools- Organize and lead inspection reviews where required for the functional safety work products- Chair periodic functional safety meetings between the customer and the Flex project team- Plan the appropriate confirmation measures as required by ISO 26262- Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Flex Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Supplier groups to ensure all stakeholder requirements are fulfilled
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or related fields- 5 years or more experience in embedded systems development in the automotive industry- Hands-on experience in functional safety management for development of products in the automotive industry
Here are a few of our preferred experiences:
- Master's Degree- Certification and training in ISO26262 Functional Safety- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills needed to effectively work with internal and external customers- Experience in project planning/project management

Our Flex Toronto and Flex Farmington Hills are fast-paced design centers servicing global customer in the automotive sector. We offer full product development including overall system architecture development, hardware and mechanical design and software development. We have ISO certified environmental and EMC labs as well as full factory test system design and build capabilities.
