Southern Railway of Vancouver Island (SVI) is the operating railroad for Vancouver Island freight and potential passenger services and works under a haulage arrangement with Southern Railway of British Columbia Limited ("SRY"). SVI provides rail freight services to various customers on Vancouver Island via Transload operation based in Wellcox yard offering connections to North American Railroads (CN, CP, BNSF, and UP) who have the ability to reach across the continent. SVI is the rail operator for the Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) and is well positioned to operate any future or potential rail operations which may arise, this includes expanding transload operations, freight, tourism, passenger or commuter trains. At this time, SVI only serves freight customers.

**The Opportunity**

We are looking for someone who is flexible to do many different jobs, assisting in the maintenance and operations of the railroad; if this describes you, we want YOU Reporting to the SVI Superintendent, the incumbent will have a wide array of responsibilities to keep their day going which may include the following:

- Transload products from railcar to truck;
- Perform manual labor functions, such as tie replacement, shoveling, tamping, brush cutting and other maintenance related tasks;
- Operate track machines, tools and equipment as required;
- Operate and maintain track switches as needed;
- Operate company vehicles;
- Other duties as assigned.

**The Ideal Person**

The successful incumbent will:

- Possess minimum grade 12 diploma or equivalent;
- Hold a valid and clean BC Driver's License;
- Have the physical ability to perform manual labor functions; and
- Have availability to work any shift, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays.

**Additional information**:

- Preference is given to applicants who also hold a Conductor or Locomotive Engineer qualification;
- This job requires the incumbent to work outdoors in ALL weather conditions, and walk extended distances over uneven terrain; and
- Adherence to safety procedures/guidelines at all times is required. Safety is our core value which requires you to wear proper safety personal protective equipment.

This a unionized position with a competitive salary of $23.56 per hour plus a benefits package. All new hires will be required to undergo and pass a criminal record check and pre-employment physical and medical evaluation that includes drug screening.
