The Director, Special Projects, Clinical Informatics reports to the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) and oversees the selection, scoping, implementation and evaluation of key operational and strategic clinical informatics initiatives, in alignment with the Provincial digital health and PHSA’s vision and strategic priorities. The Director is a member of the clinical informatics leadership team and manages a team of professional experts responsible for the review and evaluation of workflows, practices, procedures and systems that lead to the enhanced integration and adoption of services, better service delivery, improved customer satisfaction and development of new programs.

In collaboration with the Provincial Digital Health Information Services (PDHIS), the Director drives the direction of the provincial digital and virtual health related initiatives, facilitates consensus on a formal basis and negotiates contracts with vendors and ancillary suppliers. The role is responsible for balancing portfolio volume and for the allocation of resources such as staffing, budget and deliverable timelines, ensuring internal resources requirements are met and project governance is aligned and adhered to.

**What you’ll do**
- Prioritizes the organization’s engagement in internal and external projects and quality initiatives in consultation with senior leadership. Develops and implements project goals and objectives for assigned area of responsibility, ensuring clear performance objectives and metrics are in place to assess the delivery of services within an interdisciplinary and multi-site environment.
- Oversees the development of project charters, plans and monitors timelines and project deliverables. Consults with senior executives and partners and executes project plan according to project methodologies, ensuring successful and coordinated completion of project components, and ensures readiness for project implementation and evaluation.
- Provides supervision, leadership, guidance and support to staff within the designated portfolio. Monitors and approves requests for overtime, vacation, leaves of absences, and sick time. Oversees all aspects of human resource (HR) management within the portfolio, in partnership with HR, including investigating work and staff issues, initiating disciplinary action up to and including termination.
- Develops and monitors project budgets within the context of operational demands and environmental and resource constraints and uses best practice methods to thoroughly monitor and adhere to allocated budgets.
- Tracks project progress according to project plan and identified metrics. Monitors all activities and provides the executive with regular comprehensive status reports, identifying potential problems, barriers and solutions. In consultation with the executive and partners determines projects scope and related changes required to facilitate a successful outcome.
- Evaluates and effects changes as needed to improve services, simplify workflow, support the achievement of required outcomes and ensure adherence to accreditation, regulatory, professional, and safety standards and requirements.
- Ensures that effective processes are in place to assess project risks, identify risk mitigation strategies and monitor risk throughout the life cycle of the project.
- Collaborates effectively with patients/clients, family, staff, physicians, leadership, regional health authorities, community partners, and ministry staff and officials, and national and international health related organizations and fosters effective relationships across the organization and with external partners to maintain sponsorship support for project and quality initiatives and activities.
- Develop, implement and sustain an in-house training program using a novice to expert pathway approach for developing clinical informatics workforce based on identified competencies. Maintain awareness of current informatics trends and issues through methods such as literature reviews, contact with peers at other organizations and attendance at workshops, seminars and continue to integrate these within the curriculum to keep it current and relevant to the field.
