Elk Island Public Schools Central Services building is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the Division, Central Services is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students and Information Technologies.

Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a permanent full-time Payroll Officer.

As an integral team member of Financial Services, the Payroll Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely running of payroll for approximately 2000 employees. This role is a member of a team of Payroll Officers, who will coordinate with schools and central department staff while reporting directly to the Payroll Supervisor.

Commencing April 8, 2024 or before

37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday
- 7.5 hours per day)

EIPS provides a comprehensive benefits package for permanent employees

**Responsibilities include**:
Prepares, reviews, and executes payroll process on a monthly or bi-weekly basis. Provides support and absence coverage for other Payroll Officers.

Includes auto-generation of pay cycles, processing time bank accruals, creating production reports, ensuring appropriate approvals, checking proper budget distribution, and additional related duties.

Makes complex calculations for payout of temporary teacher contracts, leaves of absence, salary increments, and FTE changes.

Keeps abreast of current legislation, collective agreements, employee handbooks, school board policies, employment standards and all pension and union regulations.

Full cycle payroll duties, including but not limited to setting up benefits and pensions, government remittances and reconciliations, WCB, and T4s.

Coordinates with staff outside the payroll team in a number of areas, including ensuring correct implementation of benefit entitlements, responding to staff queries, completing government and internal reporting requirements, etc.

Completes related administrative work, including ensuring proper retention of required documentation.

**Education and Experience**: (Equivalencies will be considered)

Payroll Compliance Practitioner (or working toward certification)

Minimum of 3 years of related experience in payroll, preferably in the public sector

Strong computer skills

Previous school board experience would be an asset

Experience with Powerschool’s atrieveERP would be an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes

Excellent organizational skills to work within tight, absolute deadlines

Strong interpersonal skills to be able to communicate effectively, even when under time pressure

Must be able to work collaboratively in problem solving unique situations
