Why is this role important?
- Reporting to the Manager, Cloud and Infrastructure Services, the IT System Administrator will receive technical direction and guidance from senior technical resources (i.e Technology Administrators, Sr. IT Systems Analysts) and collaborate closely with the team to provide support for CIHI’s technology/analytical platforms including pertaining to the assigned technology domain; SAS environments, Middle tier systems, Linux, Windows, etc. in AWS, Microsoft 365 and Azure.
- The IT System Administrator is responsible for assisting in the configuration, the daily administrative support of technology platforms, implementation, maintenance of system updates, and security processes as required ensuring the environment remains compliant with CIHI’s Information Security Management System (ISMS).
- The IT System Administrator supports Infrastructure and Technology Services through proactive communication, identifies areas for improvement in operational processes and procedures, proposes innovative and cost effective solutions within the team, and contributes to the evolution and advancement of existing and new technologies both on premise and in CIHI’s AWS Cloud Infrastructure.
- What you'll do
- 1. Supports CIHI’s Information Security Management System (ISMS) through the implementation, management and monitoring of required Information Security controls, including but not limited to Risk Management, Audit and Assessment, Monitoring and Reporting.
- 2. Acts as liaison with the provided technical direction and guidance from Senior technical resources among ITS and CIHI’s Analytical Systems and user community(SAS, R and Python) user community; proactively respond to emerging user needs.
- 3. Executes configuration changes, patching/upgrading and day-to-day administration/monitoring of applicable domain technologies including knowledge sharing with other team members and coaching if needed.
- 4. Monitors the applicable domain technology platform performance and reports/responds to any degradation of service to ensure that user experience and expectations are being met. Identifies areas of improvement to admin teams and management.
- 5. Participates in the development, maintenance, testing, and implementation of backup and recovery procedures for CIHI’s environments.
- 6. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of functional and technical documentation and and contributes to the development of policies and procedures for systems operation.
- 7. Assists with monthly operational reporting to the team and management.
- 8. Participates in the diagnoses of problems, presents solutions/proposals and implements technical solutions (evaluate, plan, design, build, implement and evolve).
- 9. Uses the resources provided by vendor, partners, knowledge centers, discussion forums, support centers and documentation etc. to educate yourself.
- 10. Ability to meet occasional off-hours support requirements or variable work hours and provide on-call services as needed.
- What you'll bring to the table
- Undergraduate degree in Information Technology (computer science, engineering or related field). An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Three years’ experience supporting either a technology or infrastructure domain.
Domains and applicable technologies of each:

- Technology - SAS, R/Python platforms, middletier etc.
- Infrastructure -IIS, DHCP, DNS, security best practices, network administration, Microsoft 365 and VMWare
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both written and oral with the ability
