We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and energetic **Environmental Scientist / Technician Co-Op **Student **on a 4 or 8-month term. In this role you will be working closely with a variety of professionals on multiple projects across a wide range of public and private sector clients. This role is a hybrid role which includes both office and field components. You will support the execute projects including, but not limited to, the collection of environmental data to support environmental site assessments (Monitoring programs, Phase I and Phase II ESAs), remediation programs, excess soil management planning, and environmental management associated with infrastructure redevelopment projects. Tasks include project set-up and coordination, field support including soil and groundwater sampling, reporting, data analysis and other general due diligence and office support activities.

**What You'll Be Doing**:

- Ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites and on all projects.
- Work in project teams including with field personnel, project coordinators, project managers, draftspersons and technical staff using your interpersonal and organizational skills, to communicate project data finding, timeline, ensure projects are completed on time and budget.
- Support field staff in the completion of monitoring, groundwater sampling programs, soil sampling during drilling, test pitting and excavation activities.
- Operate various types of field monitoring equipment (e.g., GPS, data loggers, survey level, combustible gas meters, etc.).
- Maintain excellent field notes, including safety forms, project field reports, and laboratory chain-of-custody forms.
- Support preparation of permits including utilities locates, preparing work plans and health and safety plans.
- Research and tracking of legislative and regulatory changes.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with maintaining a consulting office workplace, including, from time-to time: work at reception, completing house-keeping duties in the warehouse, maintaining field equipment, vehicle cleaning and upkeep, filing, ordering supplies, etc.

**Required Knowledge and Experience**:

- Currently enrolled in a university program in earth sciences, civil, environmental, chemical, geological engineering, or similar programs, preferably in 3rd or 4th year of academic studies.
- Course and or field work in geo-environmental sciences.
- Academic and/or practical experience with soil classification.
- Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to operate self-sufficiently and safely in the field.
- This work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities so willingness to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions should be expected.
- The ability to work on out-of-town assignments for extended periods of time.
- Advanced knowledge of standard Microsoft reporting products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

**What Desired Skills You'll Bring**:

- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or ESRI GIS software an asset.
- Working knowledge of Access Database and SQL an asset.
- Demonstrated presentation skills to present information to varied audiences and advanced writing skills to prepare detailed report/materials of varying complexity.
