**Ministry of Energy and Minerals**
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is responsible for sustaining the interests of Albertans through the stewardship and responsible development of energy and mineral resource systems.

The Energy Policy division is responsible for energy, mines, and minerals policy development and program design as well as energy economics and analysis. It engages with a wide variety of resource development partners including various levels of government, industry, and a wide spectrum of Alberta communities and Indigenous Peoples.

The Judicial Reviews Unit undertakes research and analysis, works with legal counsel in responding to requests for judicial review of department decisions, and supports the department's statutory decision-makers in achieving consistent, fair, and effective administration of Energy and Minerals' areas of responsibility.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Judicial Reviews Unit within the Proceedings Management Branch (PMB) has two openings of Director positions reporting to Executive Director, Proceedings Management.

**Director, Claims**:
The Director Claims will oversee the provision of strategic policy advice on legal issues impacting Energy and Minerals, and developing strategies for claims and trade disputes against the Crown.
This position provides support addressing claims against the Crown and the development of innovative strategies impacting the department of Energy and Minerals.

**Director, Judicial Reviews**:
The Director, Judicial Reviews will oversee the provision of strategic policy advice on legal issues impacting Energy and Minerals and develop litigation and settlement strategies.
This position will support in the development of strategic litigation and settlement strategies, impacting the department of Energy and Minerals.

Both Director positions will support and mentor a team of high-performing professionals in the successful achievement of the vision and mandate. A key contributor of the Branch's senior management team, these positions provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Executive Director, Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister and Minister. Establishing and maintaining effective relationships across government with a diverse range of community members and stakeholders will be critical to these role.

You will provide executive oversight, direction and guidance in the development of strategic policy advice, litigation and strategies. The decisions made by these positions will have a direct impact on the defense of the Crown in litigation matters. Some of the key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Exercises a high degree of judgment and interpretation in resolving complex issues.
- Considerable analytical, interpretive and evaluative thinking to synthesize a diversity of information.
- Acknowledge and address inter-personal conflict amongst team members using tactful and skilled dispute resolution techniques.
- Addresses issues, makes decisions and implements resolutions that align with ministry priorities and direction.
- Deals consistently with a number of unique situations that may arise within the ministry.

**Qualifications**:
Minimum University graduation in a related degree supplemented by seven years progressively responsible related experience.
