CONTRACT POSITION

**West Broadway Community Organization (WBCO)**

**Job Title**: Tenant Organizing Project Coordinator

**Hiring Organization**: West Broadway Community Organization (WBCO) is a not-for-profit organization that coordinates social and economic revitalization efforts in Winnipeg’s West Broadway neighbourhood.

The Tenant Organizing Project Coordinator works to empower tenants to protect and promote decent, safe, secure, and affordable housing in West Broadway and the inner city of Winnipeg. **Contract Details**: $21/hour, 35 hours per week, 12-month contract with possibility of extension. Comprehensive health and dental benefits package, paid vacation and sick time. Ideal start date is as soon as possible.

**Key Activities**

Tenant Education: The Project will increase tenants’ knowledge of their rights, housing policy, and social change strategies. Education about tenant rights and housing policy will be situated within a critical social change framework. - Design and distribute tenant education materials

Building Tenant Leadership & Power: The Project will build the skills of tenants to act collaboratively and support the development of independent tenant-led organizations. Project staff will support tenant leaders to develop collective strategies to address housing problems in their building, neighbourhood, and city. Every issue a tenant faces is a potential opening for organizing; in particular, problems which are collective rather than individual (ie. all tenants in the building facing an Above Guideline Rent Increase, etc.) should be priorities for the Project.

Organizing Activities:

- Identify collective problems facing tenants in catchment area (West Broadway and inner-city Winnipeg)
- Organize and facilitate outreach meetings in tenant buildings
- Door-knocking, leafleting, and poster outreach for organizing meetings
- Mentorship of activist tenants who want to respond to problems in their building/neighbourhood

- Network with non-profit staff across inner-city; develop supportive relationship (refer tenants to them for service; they refer tenants to Project for advocacy/organizing)
- Maintain outreach and supporter database for mobilization
- Develop resources and relationships with resource-people for tenant leaders

**Skills and Qualifications**
- (Previously gained through lived experience, volunteer work, or professional work)_
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
