**POSITION sUMMARY**:
The incumbent is an integral member of the academic team providing leadership on the safe and effective operation of all academic labs, including applied science, technology, and skilled trades training facilities on three campuses.

Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science - Technology and Trades, the incumbent collaborates with the Associate Deans of academic programs, as well as the College’s Health and Safety Officer, to develop and oversee safe lab environments, work practices, lab space design, and regulatory compliance in the delivery of academic programs in all labs and shops on three campuses, which also include Essence Dining Room, Dynamic Designs Spa and Salon, Transitions Salon, and Scruffy Dog Salon; the community-serving establishments where students learn through practicing services with members of the public. While fostering a culture of safety, the incumbent is accountable for establishing required safety protocols, procedures, training and required equipment maintenance in the labs and related field venues.

The incumbent also provides day to day management of technical support staff to ensure effective human resource planning in academic delivery within the lab spaces. As well, the incumbent collaborates with Associate Deans, Dean and Faculty to provide required documentation for certifications and accreditations in the related programs.

The Manager uses a participatory and collaborative approach in identifying, planning, reporting, and addressing health and safety issues to ensure that employees (including faculty), students, and visitors work in a safe lab environment and that college lab facilities and equipment, and procedures comply with safety policy(ies) and statutory requirements. The Manager will work closely with the College Health and Safety officer to collaborate on safety issues, safe work procedures, policies and procedures and incident reporting and resolution.

In collaboration with the Manager, Academic Operations, the Manager, Academic Labs oversees purchasing and disposal of equipment and materials for the practical learning spaces under its purview, while adhering to the college’s Purchasing Policy and the Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive. The Manager is responsible for supervising the daily activities of laboratory support staff which include full-time, part-time, and student employees.

The manager will be required to coordinate safety procedures and practices within simulated construction and industrial workplaces, so it is essential that the manager oversees the development and enforcement of safety protocols within these simulated workplaces with relevant Sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects, Industrial Establishments, and Food Safety Protocols.

As an expert in academic lab operations, the Manager provides input on the budget planning and capital planning teams to identify and prioritize necessary resource safety enhancements and risk mitigation strategies.

**Qualifications**:
**Education and Experience**:
A minimum of a 2-year diploma/degree in science, engineering, skilled trades and/or technology. One or more of the following professional designations: Red Seal/Certificate of Qualification, Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), and Joint Health and Safety Committee certification.

**Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements**:
The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location and work temporarily from a remote location with reliable internet access, as approved by the College and in accordance with the college’s Telework Policy.

**Salary & Terms**:

- **Admin Group**:Pay Band 11: $94,113 - $117,641 per annum, commensurate on education and experience. In addition to the salary, the position is eligible for pay for performance.
