A Brief Overview

Reporting to the Academic Accommodation & Consideration Manager, the Academic Accommodation & Consideration Coordinator is responsible for the administration of policies, procedures, and practices related to student academic accommodations and requests for academic consideration within the Commerce Program.

The Academic Accommodation & Consideration Coordinator works closely with Mental Health Counsellors, Academic Advisors, instructors, and other Faculties and Schools to coordinate and facilitate academic accommodation and academic consideration requests for students facing difficult or challenging personal circumstances and liaises with Student Wellness Services and the Chaplain's Office as required to ensure the timely and professional provision of student support services.

This role oversees the Commerce internal appeals process and provides logístical and administrative support to the Commerce Academic Progression Committee (APC).

This requires sound judgment and a high level of discretion when dealing with sensitive issues.

The Academic Accommodation & Consideration Coordinator must also work closely with the Commerce Operations and Advising Team as a key component of this job is to provide academic advice for students requiring accommodation/consideration.

In addition to participating in protocol review on an ongoing basis, the Academic Accommodation & Consideration Coordinator will:


Suggest changes to the protocol based on time of year (mid-terms, final exams), student need, or identified opportunities for improvement.


  • Maintain information databases, collect, organize, track, and file documentation related to academic accommodations and requests for academic consideration in a confidential manner.
  • Track and maintain data related to academic accommodations and consideration for the Academic Accommodation & Consideration Manager and senior leadership team.
  • Determine information to draw from data. Review data regularly and compile information to monitor usage and identify trends, create reports and statistical analysis, advise Manager of concerns or issues revealed by data analysis.
  • Assist the Exams & Degree Coordinator with matters related to assessments, including midterm and final exam deferral processes, and the scheduling and facilitation of deferred exams, including those requiring academic accommodations.
  • Keep current with changing legislation related to privacy and disability accommodation, research and share best practices, recommend opportunities for improvement of services to senior leadership, implement changes when directed.
