**The opportunity**

An exciting opportunity exists in our Supply Chain department within the Oil & Gas and Power division for a temporary Buyer located in Calgary. The position is for a 12-month term with the possibility of extension based on business needs. The purpose of this position is to source and procure goods and services for Sherritt’s nickel mining business in Moa, Cuba.

**In this role, you will be accountable for**:

- Conducting sourcing and purchasing activities for goods and services in compliance with the approved purchasing policies and procedures.
- Purchase order and contract life cycle processes, including preparation of RFx documentation, commercial evaluation of offers, negotiations and execution of all commercial documents.
- Preparing and negotiating Supply of Goods and Supply of Services agreements, as required.
- Ongoing contract management for existing contracts.
- Participating and encouraging the development of cross-functional teams to ensure effective and timely problem resolution.
- Managing supplier performance and engaging in Supplier Relationship Management to enhance quality and delivery of goods and services.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy in identifying the goods and services necessary to support operations.
- Participating in vendor sourcing, supplier prequalification, and new vendor onboarding.
- Providing timely resolution of discrepancies related to quality, quantity or price with suppliers, accounting and other departments as required.
- Providing support in data analysis, invoice audit, and spend analytics.
- Ensuring all commercial documents and activities comply with regulatory, legal and Sherritt policy requirements.
- Providing ad hoc information as requested to maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including joint venture partners, suppliers, commercial entities, government agencies, and customers.
- Collaborating across functions to analyze class spend and uncover Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) opportunities.
- Providing timely and accurate information to internal stakeholders and external customers regarding the status of any outstanding orders.
- Identifying and recommending improvements to procedures to optimize the purchasing department's performance and improving departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Managing and supporting the expediting of goods and services to ensure critical delivery times to internal customers are met.

**Skills and attributes for success**:

- Post secondary degree and/or professional designation in Supply Chain Management or similar discipline or at least 5 years of experience in lieu
- Minimum of 3 years of purchasing experience in Oil & Gas and Power Generation Industry.
- Knowledge in Supply Chain Management, and/or strategic sourcing
- Working knowledge of contract law and contracting best practices
- Solid knowledge of procurement markets, conditions and processes.
- Bilingual English - Spanish knowledge an asset
- Written and verbal communications skills.
- Advanced computer skills related to Microsoft Office.
- Excellent time management skills.
