The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) changes lives by bringing people and knowledge together to reduce the harms of alcohol and other drugs on society. We partner with public, private and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to improve the health and safety of people living in Canada. **About the Position**:
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Communications, the Strategic Communications Advisor (SCA) plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing communication strategies to advance CCSA’s goals and objectives and maximize its impact. The SCA collaborates closely with key partners across divisions to ensure consistent and effective messaging that resonates with target audiences.

**Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:
**Strategic Communications**
- Provides leadership to and accountability for strategic communications for one of CCSA’s knowledge mobilization streams
- Represents the Strategic Communications team at the stream table, providing strategic communications advice and support and ensuring effective storytelling and audience impact
- Provides strategic communications advice to ensure that communications efforts and investments expand and reinforce CCSA’s profile and visibility, contributing to implementing CCSA’s corporate communications plan and outreach strategies
- Leverages best practices and makes appropriate use of CCSA channels, including social media, media relations, public affairs and marketing campaigns (paid and organic)
- Monitors and analyzes communication efforts using key performance indicators to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

**Operations**:

- Along with other members of the Public Relations and Community Engagement division, takes responsibility for the population, continuous improvement and responsiveness for one of the following key focus areas: media relations, social media, marketing, internal communications

**Content Creation**
- Produces high-quality written and visual content, including media releases, blog posts, presentations and social media posts, to communicate key messages effectively and accessibly
- Develops content following CCSA’s style guides and its commitment to accessibility, diversity and inclusion, and reconciliation
- Works in close collaboration with Production to ensure effective use of resources, timely outputs and effective communications
- Upholds brand identity and ensures consistency in messaging across all communication channels, including print, digital and social media platforms

**Issues Management and Crisis Communication**
- Monitors relevant channels and advises on potential emerging issues
- Working with the Manager, Strategic Communications, develops and implements issues management and crisis communication plans to effectively manage and mitigate reputational risks

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field — Master's degree preferred
- Two to four years of proven experience in strategic communications, public relations or a related field, preferably in a not-for-profit or government agency environment
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide impactful advice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies that drive organizational objectives
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal partners at all levels
- Proficiency in communications planning, including a solid understanding of media relations, social media, issues management and crisis communications
- Experience in analyzing communications metrics and using data to inform decision making
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and addressing challenges
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Knowledge of relevant communication tools and platforms, including social
