The Communications and Media Relations team works in partnership with FNHA program areas, leadership, regional teams and health partners to support First Nations in BC to achieve their health and wellness goals and improve access to culturally safe, quality health services for all First Nations people in BC. The team provides strategic communications, publishing and graphic design services, and develops content for a range of channels to ensure clear, timely and appropriate messaging for internal and external audiences.

Contract: Permanent
Location: Vancouver, B.C. (Working from home is an option in line with FNHA’s work policy - minimum of two days a week in office).

**About the role**

As COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, MEDIA RELATIONS, you will engage in proactive media relations and responds to media inquiries in support of FNHA health and wellness initiatives and campaigns. Reporting to the Director, Media and Government Relations, you will consult with project teams, business leads, and health and governance partners to develop and write positive news stories that tell th compelling story of the FNHA and the communities we serve. Activities may include story writing, preparing executives with backgrounders or briefing notes, attending and covering important ceremonies and launches, writing news releases and web content, and collaborates on social media strategies.

You will develop and plans proactive communications that promote positive relations with a diverse range of stakeholders and uphold the vision, mission and values of the FNHA. You will support FNHA departments through the development and implementation of proactive media strategies, attending project meetings and proactively identifying activities that need to be communicated to audiences and stakeholders. You will organize media training, coordinates key message development and prepares spokespeople for pending interviews.

**About you**

You have excellent written and verbal communication and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively within a variety of situations and with various individuals and groups. You have a proven track record for executing high quality communication plans and materials, primarily in health care, pharmacy or health benefits programs. You have experience working with BC First Nations communities.
- Education & Experience- You have a University degree in Communications or Public Relations, or related discipline.
- You have 4 to 6 years of significant, recent experiencein journalism or in media relations for a high-profile, complex organization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
