The Gilbrea Centre is an interdisciplinary social science research hub located within the Faculty of Social Science that is dedicated to address issues of aging through collaborative and policy relevant research. Based on a collaborative undertaking by outstanding researchers and educators, the Centre produces and communicates socially-relevant knowledge which helps to broaden understandings of aging, the challenges that exist, and the suggested directions for change. Our vision is to address the needs of an aging society through socially relevant research that is grounded in community partnerships, and knowledge exchange with target groups including students, faculty, community organizations, decision-makers, and older people. Created as a major step forward in addressing contemporary issues of aging, the Centre's work on aging extends beyond McMaster's campus through partnerships and collaboration with National and international research teams, and partners in the public, private and non-profit sectors.

This position is for a three year research coordinator on a 0.4FTE basis (21 hours per week) for a 3 year study, Improving equitable access to integrated primary care in residential care facilities: The Juravinski Integrated Residential Care Initiative funded by the Juravinski Research Institute. This project is co-led by Drs Anthea Innes, Joanna Sinn and Andrew Costa supported by a wider interdisciplinary team. This particular position will involve be supervised by Dr Innes and be based within the Gilbrea Centre. The role will involve co-ordinating Phase 1a and contributing to coordianting Phase 1b and contributing to the development of Phase 2 of the study. The post holder will support the research activities in selected residential care facilities across Hamilton.

**Job Summary**:
**Purpose and Key Functions**:

- Develop an implementation plan for research projects.
- Design promotional strategies and related materials to encourage participation and support for research projects.
- Perform quantitative analyses of research data.
- Interview study participants to gather qualitative and quantitative data.
- Facilitate focus group sessions with project participants.
- Coordinate and manage the collection, delivery, entry, verification, analysis, and reporting of data.
- Oversee the design and maintenance of databases, data collection forms, error checking methods, and related programs for collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, grants, and abstracts.
- Coordinate the activities of research staff and resources to ensure that projects progress in accordance with predetermined timelines.
- Develop estimates of time and resources for research projects.
- Use statistical software to analyze data and interpret results.
- Write data management and operations documentation for projects.
- Liaise between the project centre and remote project sites and personnel.
- Ensure that relevant research methodology is applied and all research material is handled in accordance with established protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Develop presentations and present information and training sessions to project personnel and project participants.
- Present at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
- Keep project participants informed of project progress through regular reports and newsletters.
- Implement and maintain research project budgets. Create financial projections and make adjustments to research project budgets throughout the fiscal year.
- Exercise appropriate controls, monitor, and reconcile accounts.
- Conduct literature searches.

**Assets**:
Experience in conducting social gerontological research, health/social policy research, qualitative and quantitative research, and working in one or more of the following research environments would be considered an asset: social gerontology, and health/social care policy. Experience of working in residential care facilities would be preferred. Also, an understanding of Ontario’s health care system and experience with planning, managing, and implementing change are assets.
